JUNIOR FOOTBALL |
Junior Knights win one of 3 games
The Lake-Lehman Junior
Knights traveled to Larksville to
meet the Greenwaves Sept. 17.
The C Team opened the afternoon
by kicking off to Larksville. De-
spite a great effort, the Jr. Knights
came away on the short end of the
36-0 score. Joshua Cragle, Ryan
Besteder and Matthew Kosloski
played well on offense and the
defense was led by David Gronski
and Ronnie Ritts.
The B Team lost a hardfought
battle 16-6. After a scoreless first
quarter, Larksville was able to
push in a touchdown from the 2-
yard line on fourth down, after a
tough Knight defense held them
for two downs. Joshua Marsh had
run for a 78-yard score in the first
quarter, but the play was called
back for a penalty. Marsh scored
the Knights only touchdown on a
53-yard run in the third quarter.
Later in the quarter, the Knights
looked like they had another
chance to score when Chris Teet-
selintercepted a Greenwave pass,
but the Knights couldn't take
advantage of the opportunity. The
fourth quarter was played evenly,
with the Knights turning back
two Larksville scoring attempts.
The Jr. Knights A Team took
the only victory of the day by a 2-
0 score. The points came on a
safety in the third quarter after
the Knight defense pushed the
Greenwave back to its own 2-yard
line. Johnathon Bird and Joey
Shurmaitis had several outstand-
ing offensive plays and David
DeLong, Jesse Bixby and Warren
Vogel led the defense. The game
ended after Harold Newell inter-
cepted a Larksville pass to end
their last scoring threat.
The Junior Knights will play at
Edwardsville Sunday.
Raiders B Team tops Edwardsville
In B Team action, the Kingston
Township Raiders defeated the
Edwardsville Eagles 20-12 last
Sunday. Trailing 12-8 with only
49 seconds remaining on the
clock, running back Luke Miller
took a pitchout and rambled 65
yards for the go-ahead score. One
play later Miller recorded his sec-
ond interception of the afternoon
and returned if for his third touch-
down, capping the 20-12 victory.
The Raiders first score was set up
by a long run by Paul Saxon.
Quarterback Bobby Zaruta added
the 2-point conversion. A tough
defensive effort was led by Jared
Swire, Jonathan Barbose, John
Krispin and Bobby Zaruta.
The Raiders A Team lost 6-0 to
the Eagles in a hardfought battle.
The Raiders reached the 12-yard
line but couldn't punch in for the
score. The defensive line of Jeff
Parrish, Mike Regan, Jeff Zaruta,
Justin Tamaniniand JohnJames
held the opposing team to the
single touchdown. Get well wishes
go out to coach Bob Garringer
whois in the hospital and to David
Hopersberger who was injured in
the game, and also to the Eagles
player who broke his shoulder
during the game.
The Raiders C Team also lost to
the Eagles, by a 14-8 score. Brian
Ostrowski scored the lone Raider
touchdown and Elijah Miller got
the 2-point conversion. Matt
Brokenshire intercepted a pass
for the defense. Also playing well
for the defense were Matt Kelly
and Marty Murray.
The Raiders cheerleaders did a
great job cheering for all three
teams. Congratulations to the B
Team for placing third in the Side-
line Dance category of the Greater
Pittston Football League competi-
tion Saturday.
Mini-Mount B Team wins 18-6
Even with the absence of five
players, the Dallas Mini-Mounts
B Team displayed exceptional
blocking skill and a great team
effort to beat the Kingston Hus-
kies 18-6 Sunday.
The Mounts scored three times
on long runs, one each of 45 yards
by Ryan Gryskevicz and Jeff
Emanuel, and a spectacular 98-
yarder by Emanuel. The boys
worked as a team to come out on
top.
