An Independent federal agency, the Archives holds the histori- cally valuable records of the three history from the First Continental Congress to the present. Microfilm holdings include Census Records 1790-1920, mili- tary service records of the Revolu- tionary War, (1775-1783), War of 1812 (1812-1815), Mexican War Hospice volunteers honored Back Mountain residents Robert and Ruth Voelker and Mary Hoyes were recently honored for 100 hours of service as volunteers for Hospice St. John, now in its 16th year of service to the region’s terminally ill. Larish of Ransom Road, Dallas, cele- brated their 55th wedding anni- versary on May 15, 1995. The couple was married in 1940 at a double ceremony with Mr. and. Mrs. Glen Dymond, West Pittston. Mrs. Larish, the former Mertie Grace Evans, was born in Ver- non, PA, and graduated from the Beaumont High School. One of seven daughters born to Theo- dore and Jospehine Price Evans, she is a descendent of Elihu Wil- liams, who fought at the Battle of Wyoming. Mrs. Larish was a vacation Bible School teacher at the Orange United Methodist Church and a Girl Scout troop leader. An avid gardener and motorcycle enthusiast, she is a member of the Pennsylvania En Plein Air Society and Cider Paint- ers of America. ‘Mr. ‘Larish was born in Wyo- ming, PA, the only son of A. Ray- mond and Grace Dymond Larish. He graduated from Wyoming High School and was employed as an auto mechanic at the Wyoming Barracks of the PA State Police. He is the great-grandson of Cyrus Larish, who served in the 184th Regiment during the Civil War. He is also descended from Mat- thew Dymond, a soldier in the American Revolution, and the Stevens family, who were Puritan pioneers. Mr. Larish designed and built the couple’s home near Orange, and has also designed and built furniture. His hobbies include science and electronics. Kenneth and Mertie Larish are the parents of one daughter, local artist Sue Hand. They have one granddaughter, Heather Madiera,, and two great granddaughters, Laura Lynne Madeira, age 3, and Rachel Grace Madeira, born on Mother's Day, one day before their anniversary. Also helping to cele- brate the occasion are son-in-law Joseph R. Hand and grandson- in-law, Timothy S. Madeira. Confirmation service May 21 at Trucksville ‘On Sunday, May 21, one worship service will be held at Trucksville United Methodist Church, at which the 10 members of this year's Confirmation Class will be confirmed by Rev. W. Charles Naugle. ‘Earlier in the morning the Membership Committee will host a breakfast for the confirmands and their families. ‘A reception for! all members of the congregation will follow the service. Orienteering meet May 21 at Frances Slocum Park The Pocono Orienteering Club (POC) will hold an event May 21 at Frances Slocum State Park in Trucksville. In orienteering, . participants use a detailed-five color topogra- phical map and compass to navi- gate a marked course in the field. Appropriate footwear is suggested. No prior experience is needed. Participants can register and start any time between 10 a.m. and noon at the park's Nature Center. Entry fee is $5 for non- members and instruction is al- ways available. Compasses can be rented for fifty cents. Designed as an introduction to orienteering, the event will fea- ture nine short courses, divided into beginner, intermediate and advanced difficulty. For one entry fee, participants can try as many different courses as they wish. Each course brings the partici- pant back to the start/finish area, where they can discuss their per- formance and begin a different course.
