Bernard Banks will lead Boy Scout Council The Northeastern Pennsylvania Council, Boy Scouts of America recently conducted its annual meeting at the Convention Hall, Pittston. Elected President was Bernard C. Banks, Jr. of Shaver- town. Banks is Executive Vice Presi- dent of American Asphalt Paving Co. and is President of Wilkes- Barre Construction Company of Chase. He has been active with the former Penn Mountains Boy Scout Council for more than 20 years, serving as a member of the Execu- tive Board, District Committee, Exploring Chairman and Advisor, Vice President of Finance, Camp- ing Chairman and President. He was a decisive force in con- solidating the Penn Mountains Council with the Forest Lakes Council in 1990 and served as Executive Vice President of the new council for two years. Banks is also active with the Wyoming Valley Chapter of the BERNARD C. BANKS JR. also active with the Pennsylvania Economy League. The Northeastern Pennsylvania American Red Cross, serving as a ~ member of its Board of Directors and as Blood Services Chairman. He has served as chairman of the Back Mountain Drug and Alcohol task force, and is a past president of the Dallas Kiwanis Coub. He is Council serves 10,000 registered members in Lackawanna, Luzerne, Wayne, and Wyoming Counties and is a member agency of the United Ways of Lackawanna County, Wyoming Valley and Wyoming County. Shriners host family picnic A day of food and fun was the rule when members of Irem Temple Shrine recently hosted the annual Irem Temple Family Picnic. The event was held at the Country Club in Dallas with more than 200 youngsters and their parents and grandparents in attendance. Prizes were awarded in competi- tions divided by age for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. In addition to the traditional picnic fare items such as hot dogs and soda, those present enjoyed snow cones, ice cream, cotton candy and pop corn. Amusements ranged from a ferris wheel and an airplane carousel to live pony rides and hayrides for both young and young-at-heart. Committee members included: Paul G.
