(Photo by Christine Conrad) Lake-Lehman track had a few bright spots By CHRISTINA CONRAD Sports Correspondent Although the Lake-Lehman girls’ and boys’ track teams had a less than impressive final record this season, they still had a few ath- letes who performed really well for head coach Ed Narkiewicz. Senior Lauren Frederick, daugh- ter of Donald and Linda Frederick of Harveys Lake, was the most successful of the group. She con- sistently posted first place finishes in the high jump, long jump and triple jump. This is her third year in varsity track and she qualified for districts in the long jump with a jump of 16', 2 3/4". She now advances to the state champion- ships on Friday and Saturday May 22-23 at Shippensburg. “It was strange. It seemed like the high jump and triple were my stronger events during the season. I didn't pay as much attention to my long jump. It should be easier to place, though,” commented Frederick. Frederick is now training for the competition. She is the only ath- lete from Lake-Lehman to advance. “I'm used to training by myself. I usually practice by myself. I mean, Mr. Nark has to go around to so many people. I got help from the assistant coaches and I practiced with the boys’ team,” stated Freder- ick. Lauren is hoping to do well in states. After that she is planning on attending Kutztown University to continue her academic and athletic career. “I can't wait. I also am going to try indoor track which is new for me because I'll be doing it all year round. It will be a lot of hard work," Frederick said. Frederick proved to be a leader this year by example. It should be interesting to see how she does at states. Masters was strong thrower Another senior, Gary Masters, son of Gary and Kim Masters of Sweet Valley, proved to be an ex- cellent thrower for Lehman and in the Wyoming Valley Conference. Gary has been in varsity track for four years. His events were the shot put, discus and javelin. “The See LEHMAN TRACK, pg 12 Rangers still perfect CLOSE CALL — Umpire Paul Jobson watches a close play at the plate during Bac : | League baseball action, Monday evening.
