Call it “country music,”
“mountain music,” “old-time” or
“folk” music - Cathy Barton and
Dave Para have devoted their
lives to unearthing the musical
treasures of their adopted
Ozarks homeland and sharing
the wealth with audiences all
over the US and Europe. With
their well-blended harmonies,
their impressive instrumental
skills, and a warm and intimate
stage presence that radiates
their love for what they do, the
couple from Booneville, Missouri
will be winning lots of friends for
themselves and their music
when they appear at the Chic-
ory House in Wilkes-Barre, Fri-
day, Feb. 21.
The nonprofit, volunteer-op-
erated Chicory House, North-
eastern Pennsylvania's only
venue dedicated to presenting
folk music, holds its coffeehouse
concerts in the Community
Room of St. Stephen's Episco-
pal Church, South Franklin
Street across from Boscov's in
downtown Wilkes-Barre. The
performance by Cathy Barton
and Dave Para will begin at 8:30
p.m. Doors open at 8 p.m.
In their performing, Cathy
and Dave have cultivated three
major influences: the traditional
tunes and songs from Missouri
and the Ozarks, old-time and
early country music, and con-
temporary folk music.
Cathy and Dave have made a
number of records, including
“Ballad of the Boonslick” and
“On a Day Like Today,” on the
