Ann Jordan given Rotary
award for community activities
Mrs. Ann Jordan was recently
awarded the Paul Harris Fellow-
ship Award by the Dallas Rotary
Club for outstanding community
activity and participation in keep-
ing with the principles of Rotary.
Mrs. Jordan is the first woman and
non-member of Rotary to receive
this award by the Dallas Rotary
Club, with her husband, Dr. L.E.
Jordan, being the first member of
the Dallas Rotary Club to receive
the award.
Some of Mrs. Jordan's achieve-
ment over the year have included:
Grand Regent of Catholic Daugh-
ters, St. Therese's Church, Shav-
ertown, where she served for two
years; twice Past-President of the
Dallas Senior Women's Club where
she served for 35 years; Advisor to
Dallas Junior Women's Club; Past-
President of Dallas Rotary Ann's
where she served for 41 years;
Chairperson of the refreshment
stand and bake booth at the Dallas
Library Auction, having volun-
teered her services for 32 years;
Volunteer at the Luzerne County
Fall Fair for the past 23 years;
Secretary of the Dallas Rotary
Student Exchange Program for
seven years, serving with her
husband who was chairperson and
founder of the Exchange Program.
Mrs. Jordan has attended meet-
ings and visited 29 Rotary Dis-
tricts. She has attended nine Ro-
tary conventions in four different
countries. She has also been Sec-
retary and Past President of the
Dental Auxiliary of Luzerne County
and had been a member of the
auxiliary for 38 years.
Attending the award ceremony
were her children and grandchil-
dren. Her children are, Mrs. Lynne
Horoschak, Dresher, Pa.; Mrs.
Peggy Harvey, Dallas; Mrs. Jeri
Baranowski, Orange; Mrs. Cory
Ryan, Richmond, Va. and Paul
Jordan, Hershey. Mrs. Jordan
resides with her husband in
Trucksville.
In our service
Sgt. Michael S. Newell recently
participated in the Strategic Air
Command exercise, “Global Shield
'89.”
The exercise tested the readi-
ness of SAC units around the world,
as well as Air Force reserve and Air
National Guard units, to carry out
orders which support the United
States national policy.
Newell is an area supervisor with
the 9th Security Police Squadron,
Beale Air Force Base, Calif.
He is the son of Harold R. and
Janice L. Newell of 64 Pinecrest
Ave., Dallas.
His wife, Jody, is the daughter
of Jacob and Paulette Dvorak of
5204 Belmont Road, Grand Forks,
N.D.
The sergeant is a 1983 graduate
of Dallas Senior High School.
Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class
John M. Westfield, son of Rev.
and Mrs. Henry E. Westfield of 90
Claude St., Dallas, was graduated
from Field Medical Service School.
During the five-week course at
Marine Corps Base, Camp Lejeune,
N.C., Westfield was prepared for
duty with Marine Corps combat
units as a naval hospital corpsman
and dental technician. Westfield
studied the fundamentals of bat-
tlefield survival, personal protec-
tive measures, and received in-
structions on basic tactics and the
use of weapons for self-defense.
To graduate, he was required to
demonstrate basic proficiency in
emergency medical techniques,
casualty evacuation, field sanita-
tion and preventive medicine pro-
cedures.
A 1986 graduate of Dallas Sen-
ior High School, he joined the Navy
in June 1986.
Susan E. Dodson has been
commissioned a second lieuten-
ant through the Air Force ROTC
program, and earned a bachelor’s
degree from King's College, Wilkes-
Barre.
Dodson is the daughter of Ruth
E. and Charles L. Dodson of RD 3,
Sweet Valley.
The lieutenant is a 1985 gradu-
ate of Lake-Lehman High School,
Lehman. :

Airman James C. Carey has
graduated from Air Force basic
training at Lackland Air Force Base,
Texas.
During the six weeks of training
the airman studied the Air Force
mission, organization and customs
and received special training in
human relations.
In addition, airmen who com-
plete basic training earn credits
toward as associate degree through
the community college of the Air
Force.
Carey is the son of Dianne F.
Graham and stepson of John J.
Graham of RD 1, Dallas.
He is a 1988 graduate of Dallas
Senior High School.
Army Reserve Private 1st
Class Elizabeth F. Gush has
completed the Army personnel
adminsitration specialist course at
Fort Benjamin Harrison, Ind.
The course was designed to
provide students a working knowl-
edge of unit administration duties
including files and publications,
correspondence procedures, unit
personnel actions, and basic typ-
ing skills.
Gush is the daughter of Carl G.
Gush of 29 Pellam Terrace, Dallas,
and Odetta F. Gush of RD 1, Har-
veys Lake.
She isa 1986 graduate of Bishop
O'Reilly High School, Kingston.

Dolores Hagen named Chief
Clinical Dietitian at Nesbitt |
Dolores Hagen, R.D., was re-
cently appointed to the position of
Chief Clinical Dietitian at Nesbitt
Memorial Hospital, Kingston. A
graduate of College Misericordia,
Dallas, with a bachelor of science
degree in Foods and Nutrition, she
served a dietetic internship at
Augusta Area Hospital, Augusta,
Georgia. Before her position at
Nesbitt Memorial Hospital, Hagen
served as Clinical Coordinator at
Newcomb Medical Center.
Hagen is an active member of
the American Dietetic Association,
and a member of St. Mary’s Syrian
Orthodox Church, Wilkes-Barre.
She resides in Shavertown with
her husband, Neno C. Sartini.
Volunteer of the month
Toni Lukasavage, 13, of Noxen, was recently selected as Wilkes-
Barre General Hospital's Junior Volunteer of the Month.
The daughter of Frank and Lillian Lukasavage, she volunteered
33 hours of in-hospital service, including work on the hospitality
