PAUL JONES, son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Jones of Jackson
Township, hs been accepted into four law schools for the Fall
semester. Paul is currently attending King’s College and will
choose from Dickinson, Dayton, Pittsburgh, or Dusquesne Law
Schools.
IT’S CELEBRATION month for the Bob Considine family.
Marianne Considine celebrated her birthday March 1, Bob Sr.,
March 5, Bob Jr.’s will be March 19 and to top off the month of
these two Shavertown families will be the 37th wedding anniversa-
ry of Bob and Marianne on March 31. Their two grandchildren,
Robyn and Brent have been enjoying the cakes for all these
special days and the entire family will have one big dinner
celebration to honor the anniversary and end their special month.
Happy birthday, Happy Anniversary Considines.
PAULINE KUTZ OF Machell Avenue, Dallas, gets so involved
with volunteering at our Back Mountain Library Auction year
round that I wonder where she found the time to study for
herself. Pauline, whom we all know and love to work with at the
Auction decided to go back to LCCC for a short time and take a
refresher course in her nursing career. Congratulations on
completing the course Pauline, I always knew you were a lady
who stayed on top of things.
KATHI AND RICK POST of Shickshinny spent two weeks
touring Florida. The Posts took one route down and followed the
coast coming home getting to see as much as possible both ways.
They stayed at Orlando, visited Disneyworld, Epcot Center and of
course the beaches. Their two children had their own special
vacation and spent the two weeks with Grandma Marge in Sweet
Valley.
ALICEN VAN GORDER, daughter of Robert and Linda Van
Gorder, Sweet Valley, spent her spring break in Puerto Rico.
Alicen is a student at Penn State and she and 15 other girls
decided everyone goes to Florida so let’s do something different
so ‘Puerto Rico here we come. The girls’ plans were to tour as
much as possible, lots of time on the beaches and of course a few
parties. One of the girls in the group used to live in Puerto Rico
so they had the advantage of a real tour guide everywhere they
went.
THERE’S A SPECIAL guy in the Newberry Estates, Dallas,
who’s celebrating a birthday on March 11. So a special birthday
wish goes to him this week. Happy birthday Uncle John Davis.
CONGRATULATIONS to Dr. and Mrs. Michael Callahan of
Shavertown on the birth of their daughter, Jessica. Debbie and
Mike also have a son, Nicholas, who attends Trucksville Nursery
School.
WE’D LIKE to welcome the Peeler family to their new home in
Bulford Farms, Shavertown. Molly and Ray have two children:
Meighan, who is a pre-schooler at Apple Tree and Michael.
Library notes
The Back Mountain Memorial Library display case will be
featuring for the next four weeks a collection of demitasse cups
and saucers borrowed from Virginia Davis of Dallas. Many of the
cups and saucers had belonged to Virginia’s mother and are
antiques. She has loaned us 26 of these from her collection, many
of which she received as gifts from friends. Virginia found these
stored away in a carton after her mother died. She keeps them at
home on shelves.
Her collection began with 12 sets from her mother’s collection
and the others she received as gifts or bought herself while
traveling. She has two favorites, a tall dark red one with a
scenery and one Japanese with a woman’s face from Colorado.
One odd one, a blue dragon on cup and saucer; a brass one from
India; a white with green shamrock appropriate for St. Patrick’s
Day and one from Thomas Jefferson’s home in Virginia. Her
older son, Dan, gave her one with Dublin House from Colorado
Springs. There is one floral with Wilkes-Barre painted on; a
petite pink miniature and a white one with tiny blue flowers, the
library staff’s favorite. Virginia lived in Colorado for 9 years and
Washington, D.C. for 20 years. This display will be at the library
until March 30.
The Book Club of the library will hold its first meeting for 1988
in the reference room at the library on Monday, Mar. 21 at 1:30.
Special guest speaker will be Richard Kastl, executive director of
the Wyoming Historial and Geological Society, who will speak
about Wilkes-Barre over the past 50 years. All members of the
Book Club and guests are invited to attend. After a short business
meeting, refreshments will be served.
