DENMON Staff Writer The Lake-Lehman’s Lady Knights dropped their last two games, losing to Meyers 65-48 and earlier last week to Crest- wood 63-45, both times put down by their high scorers. In the Meyers: game, Cindy Wasilius hit for 32 points and in the Crestwood game Becky Cooper and Cassie Hudock for a total of 38. “Our offense played well in both games but in the second quarter it seemed our intensity dropped off. The big girls on the opponents teams are too much for our kids. When there’s too wide a spread, we don’t have the big players so it becomes an up hill fight to close the gap. =| Happy NEW YEAR STATE REPRESENTATIVE Scott Dietterick “With every game our girls are making progress and with a little more experience, they’ll be capable of taking any of their opponents,’’ said Coach Joe Martini. In the Meyers game, Meyers went ahead to lead 32-20 at halftime but in the second half the Lady Knights rallied to play the Mohawks fairly even. Janene Kasarda was high scorer for Lake-Lehman with 22 points, scoring 10 of them in the third period. Jachimowicz added 10 points for the Lady Knights. The Lady Knights stayed close in the first half in their game with Crestwood with Debbie Levi dumping in 15 of her 22 points. Kasarda added 12 points for the Back Mountain girls but the Comets big Becky Cooper teamed up with Cassie Hudock overpowered the shorter Knights. : “Our girls have trouble adjusting when they play against a team with height,” said Martini. ‘They have to get more experience in using preci- sion and selecting their shots. That’s coming along and with a few more games under their belts, there will be a big differ- ence.” The Lady Knights were sched- uled to play Tunkhannock and then Central Columbia during the holiday week. Martini said both teams are comparable to the Lady Knights and said if his girls played up to their poten- tial, the games could go either way just as the opening game with Northwest which the Knights won. DENMON Staff Writer The Lake-Lehman boys’ bas- ketball team ran its record to 2- 1 during the past week when it defeated the Crestwood Comets 51-50 in overtime but lost a hard fought game, 48-46, to a much bigger Meyers team. “Our kids played a great defensive game and our offense had the shots but didn’t put them in the basket like they should. We had a seven point lead in the second quarter but Carl Houck picked up three fouls and we had to sit him out until the half,”’ said Coach Rodger Bearde. When Houck went out of the game, the Mohawks ran off nine points but the Knights fought back and tied the score 19-19 at halftime. Bearde put Houck back in the game part way through the third period but the big Knight fouled out in the beginning of the fourth quarter which hurt the Knights. “In the second half Meyers Pete Tarutis really hurt us. He teamed up with P.J. Ashton, who pulled down some key rebounds and handed them off to Tarutis. Tarutis scored six points in the final seconds of the game.” Lenny Annetta played a good game for the Knights and came close to leading the Knights to a win in the final minutes of the game. He drove the baseline and hit for two points then made a foul shot to put the Knights within reach of Meyers. They brought the score to 46-44 but Tarutis made two foul shots to give Meyers a 48-44 lead. Annetta scored another basket but timed ran out with the game ending 48-46. Earlier in the week, the Knights played a tough defen- sive game with only five boys in the entire game. “Our defense was outstand- ing,” said Bearde, ‘but they were sloppy on offense and their The Knights took an early first period 12-9 lead and held the edge the entire game. Houck played a strong inside game for the Knights and in the second quarter he dominated scoring 10 of his 20 game points. i Lake-Lehman outplayed th Comets until the final minutes of the game when the Comets took over and controlled the pace. They had plenty of chances at shots but couldn’t put the ball in the basket which prevented them from getting better than a 44-44 tie.
