Veteran officers of Dallas Post No. 672,
American Legion pushed to obtain a Post Home.
A definite name for the post was also to be
selected. Stuart Major was commander.
Dallas Borough School seriously considered
replacing high school football with soccer. The
school considered this move because of the
difficulty that smaller schools had in building
football teams from a small student body.
College Misericordia was remembered in the
wills of two prominent Wyoming Valley people.
Monsignor John J. Curran, and Mrs. Mary
Stegmaier left in excess of $5,000 to the college.

40 YEARS AGO - DEC. 13, 1946
Dale Dodson, son of Mr. and Mrs. George
Dodson, was a member of the four thousand
man expedition led by Admiral Byrd to Antarc-
tica. Dodson sailed aboard the Seaplane Tender
Pine Island out of Norfok, Virginia, with the
United States Navy.
Homemaking Teachers of Luzerne County
schools met and reported that several would
attend the annual State Farm Show at Harris-
burg. Holding demonstrations at the show were
Lake, Lehman, Dallas Township and Huntington
Township schools.
Married - Lena Hackling and Frank Shaneber-
- ger; Margery McHale and Gilbert Manchester.

30 YEARS AGO - DEC. 14, 1956
Although police had obtained a couple of good
leads, they still had no definite clues on the
$1,500 worth of diamond rings were stolen from
a broken show window.
Although the total number of housing units
built in the Back Mt. area was down slightly in
1956, the opening of Linear Plant and the State
Correctional Institution in Jackson Twosnhip
promised new home building in 1957. This
information was noted by Howard Whitesell,
partner in Whitesell Brothers, who was building
three and four bedroom homes for $13,000 to
$18,000.

20 YEARS AGO - DEC. 15, 1966
Dallas School Board voted to convert the
Senior High School to gas heat. According to
Milton Evans, chairman of the property commit-
tee, the changeover would result in a savings of
$5,000 to the school district.
The first snowfall of the winter season gave
the Back Mountain eight inches of snow and
caused hazardous driving conditions.
Devins Mill at Dallas was sold to Agway
Farms, Inc. Richard Cook, who transferred
from Honesdale, would manage the store.

Charles Ashman; Margaret Hennessey and
Edward Coolbaugh.
Anniversaries - Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Rogowski,

School Board. Ernest Ashrbridge was outgoing
president.
