Gertrude Bell
Mrs. Gertrude Bell, 77, of 120
Lincoln Dr., Shavertown, died
December 8 in Nesbitt Memo-
rial Hospital, Kingston.
. Born in Plymouth, she was a
graduate of Plymouth High
School and was employed as a
concessionaire for the Kingston

been employed as a teacher for
several years in the Wilkes-
Barre area school district. He
was last employed by the L.B.
Smith Inc. Equipment Company
as a vice-president and man-
ager at the Camp Hill and
Plains township Divisions.
He was a member of the
the Comerford Theater from
which she retired in 1975.
She resided most of her life in
Kingston, moving to Shavertown
in 1971. She ws a member of the
American Legion Auxiliary,
Dallas and the Dallas United
Methodist Church.
She was’ preceded in death by
sisters, Catherine Diamond and
Ruth Armitage and brothers,
George and Elwood Armitage.
Surviving are her husband,
William B.; daughters, Mary L.
Simons and Susan Ryder
Jordan, both of Dallas; five
grandchildren; two great-grand-
children; brother, Albert Armi-
tage, Trucksville.
Funeral services will be held
Thursday at 11 a.m. from the
Harold C. Snowdon Funeral
Home, 140 N. Main St., Shaver-
town. Interment will be in
Maple Hill Cemetery, Shaver-
town. Friends may call today
from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Surviving are his wife, the
former Esther Jones; brother,
John, Wilkes-Barre; several
nephews.
George Rogers
George L. Rogers, 70, of Mill
Street, Lehman, died December
2 in Nesbitt Memorial Hospital,
Kingston, shortly after admis-
sion.
Born in Ashley, he was a
graduate of the Dallas Township
schools and had resided in
Lehman for the past 41 years.
Prior to his retirement in 1979,
he was employed as a care-
tacker at the Huntsville Reser-
voir for Pennsylvania Gas &
Water.
Previously he had served as
Dallas.
He was a member of the
Lehman United Methodist
Church and Osage Lodge 712,
I1.0.0.F., International of Odd
Fellows, where he was serving
as trustee and was Past Grand.
He was preceded in death by a
sister, Mrs. Mabel Hess.
Surviving are his wife, the

Victor Borzone
Victor J. Borzone, of 53 East
Center St., Shavertown, died
December 2 in the Wilkes-Barre
General Hospital where he had
been a medical patient for one
day.
Born in Pittston, he was a 1931
graduate of GAr -High School
and was a member of its cham-
pionship football team. He was
a veteran of the World War II,
having served with the U.S.
Army during the European
Theater of Operations.
He had been self-employed
and had owned and operated
Eagle Home Insulators, Kings-
ton, from 1945 to 1972. He had
been employed at the Luzerne
County Courthouse from 1975 to
1980.
Mr. Borzone was a member of
the Pringle Volunteer Fire Com-
pany and a charter member of
the Wilkes-Barre Republic Club.
He was a member of the Gate of
Heaven Church, Dallas, and
past president of its Holy Name
Society.
His wife, the former Louise
Cross, died in 1965.
Surviving are a daughter,
Mary Louise, at home; step-
mother, Mrs. Tillie Borzone,
Melbourne, Fla.; sister, Mrs.
Ida Davis, Shavertown; several
nieces and nephews.

Kingston Township
A Dallas man was treated and
released from the Wilkes-Barre
General Hospital Sunday night
after he was involved in a one-
car crash on Carverton Road.
Thomas P. Phillips, 32, of RD
3, Valley View Park, was
treated for cuts to his head after
his pickup truck went out of
control before landing upside
down. According to reports,
Phillips was traveling west on a
steep part of the road when he
lost control of the truck and a
rear tire blew out. The vehicle
then went over a curb, bounced
off a utility pole and rolled over
several times before landing
upside down.
The home of Richard Pavlick,
37 Hazletine Ave, Kingston
Township, was discovered
broken ‘into some time around
December 5th when approxi-
mately $573 in cash and “items
were reported missing.
Taken were $450 in assorted
coins, a wallet containing $4, a
deputy sheriff’s badge, a silver
band diver’s watch and two $5
silver certificates.
Dallas Township
A Shavertown man was
treated and eventually released
from the Nesbitt Memorial Hos-
pital last week after he was
Huntsville Road.
Joel Carey, 114 Conyngham
Road, Chase, RD 5, was treated
for facial injuries after his car
slammed into a tree.
According to police reports,
Huntsville Road near the inter-
section with Resivoir Road
when his 1977 Plymouth Volarie
failed to negotiate a curve, ran
off the west bound berm and
struck a tree.
» Mr. and Mrs. Shep Pawling of
Dallas announce the engage-
ment of their daughter, Ramah,
to Christopher Hackett, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Paul J. Hackett of
Wayne, Pa.
Miss Pawling is a graduate of
Dallas High School and Witten-
berg University in Springfield,
Ohio. A resident of Chevy
Chase, Maryland, she is
employed as an account execu-
tive for Bell Atlantic.
Mr. Hackett is a graduate of
Radnor High School and Witten-
berg University.
