    50 YEARS AGO - DEC. 4, 1936
Two hundred .and fifty employees of the Mosser
Plant Tannery in Noxen shared a six percent increase
in wages. The local companies freight shipments were
the highest in many years. The Noxen Tannery was a
subsidiary of the Armour Leather Company.
Lehman High School football team, which clinched
the Back Mountain Championship with its victory over
Kingston Township on Thanksgiving day celebrated its
victory with a turkey dinner at the home of Coach
Steven Summerhill. Ralph Johnson was toastmaster
for the evening.
Married - Alice Hadsell and Benton Hadsell.

Snyder, Dallas.

Seniors of Laketon High School under the direction

las had starring roles.
Kingston Township Veterans Association nominated
George Trun as president, Russell DeRemer as
secretary and Henry Kann as treasurer. Nominated
for vice president were William Guyette, William
Johnson and Teddy Roche.

Mary Trumbower and Curtis Crockett; Mary Templin
and Lewis J. Reese; Elinor Mary Dieruff and Robert
Francis Niemeyer.

30 YEARS AGO - DEC. 7, 1956
Thomas Andrew was elected president and Chief of
Police James Gansel of Dallas Township was named
head of the important police committee at the meeting
of the Back Mountain Citizens Safety Council. The
purpose of the group was to sponsor educational and
strict enforcement programs.
Diamonds worth $1,500 were stolen from the window
of Henry’s Jewelry Store, Main Street, in Dallas.
Henry Mastalski was owner of the jewelry shop.

Beckerman.
Married - Betty Hoover and Sharon Whitesell.

Mrs. Ann Vernon was unanimously elected president
of Dallas School Board. Louise Steinhauer was named
vice-president. Also, during the meeting John Baur,
speaking for the Teachers Association said all mem-
bers were in favor of a swimming pool at the new
junior high school and would cooperate in any way
they could in contacting the public.
The North District of Lake Township was created a
Borough according to a decision handed down by the
Luzerne County Court headed by President Judge
Frank L. Pinola and in agreement with Judges
Bernard Brominski and Jacob Schiffman.

College Misericordia planned its Madrigal Dinner

English Christmas recreation.
Members of the Orange United Methodist Church,
Franklin Township, created a fund for Mr. and Mrs.
Warrne Edmundson of Orange whose home was
destroyed by fire.

years.

Dallas Borough police chief
Ed Lyons reported three sepa-
rate burglaries took place over
the Thanksgiving holidays.
On Nov. 29th, the Back Moun-
tain Professional Building was
burglarized on the second floor
after someone entered a window
at the rear of the building. It
was not determined exactly
what was taken.
A private residence at 35
Burndale Ave. was also burglar-
ized the same day when intrud-
ers came in through a rear door
and stole stereo equipment and
$500 in cash.
The last incident occurred
sometime between Nov. 27 and
Nov. 30 on Sterling Ave., when
someone entered through a
basement window and stole
wristwatches and a VCR.
Harveys Lake
A pick-up truck: owned by
DiVeronica’s store was stolen
Friday but recovered by Har-
veys Lake Police on Monday.
The truck was stolen from in
front of the store on Outlet
Road, and police say the last
three vehicles reported stolen
all had the keys inside them.
Police would like to remind
residents to remove their keys
from their vehicles when not
being attended to.
Dallas Township
Five persons were slightly
injured in a one-car crash along
Rte. 309 early last Wednesday
night when the vehicle they
were traveling in overturned
and landed on its roof.
According to reports, Thomas
G. Davis, 17 Circle Drive,
Dallas, was operating a 1985
Chrysler LeBaron when it
struck a deep puddle, skidded
into the west bound lane, up an
embankment and struck several
trees before coming back down
and landing on its roof.
John Aston, 25 Stafford Street,
Trucksville, was thrown from
the vehicle when the hatchback
on the car opened but was not
seriously hurt.
Others slightly shaken up
were Mark Frank, 8 Hickory
Road, Dallas, Matthew Frank,
same address, and James
O’Donnell 135 W. Center Hill
Road.
A Kingston man is reported to
be in fair condition at the Nes-
bitt Memorial Hospital after he
was injured in a one car acci-
dent early Friday morning on
Rte. 309.
William H. Brandt, Jr., of 115
N. Gates Ave, was traveling
south on Rte. 309 when his 1973.
Jeep skidded on the ice covered
road and flipped onto its roof.
According to police reports the
vehicle first crossed over into
the north bound sideways then
turned on its side before coming
to rest on its roof. Brandt was
feken to the Nesbitt by a passer
y.
