Americana Antiques & Gifts, a new antique and gift shop with an Early American ‘flavor’ owned by Philip and Betsy Pack of Shavertown opened for busi- ness recently. The Packs with their son, Philip III, and daugh- ter, Amy, came to the area from Yonkers, N.Y., where Philip was a science teacher in the high school. He resigned his position as a teacher when he and Betsy decided they wanted to raise their children in a quiet, subur- ban community. Since Philip’s wife, the former Betsy Bresler, was a native of Kingston where her late parents had operated an antique shop for more than 20 years, the Packs decided to return to the Wyoming Valley area. Philip was familiar with the Back Mountain because when he was younger he used to spend his summers at Harveys Lake and Lake Silkworth. His father now resides in Nanticoke and his sister also lives in the area. After moving back to the area, the Packs decided to open a business and when they dis- covered the Dallas location that was where they wanted to locate.
