ADOPTION
By JOHN HOINSKI
Staff Writer
The Kingston Township board
of supervisors unanimously
passed the final reading of the
1987 budget at its monthly meet-
ing last Wednesday, which calls
for no. increase in property
taxes.
Taxes will remain at five
mills, with the budget being
$925,785, including $188,000 for
capital improvements.
Township Manager Fred
Potzer said he would also like to
inform residents the township
has not yet taken over responsi-
bility for Pioneer Ave. and at
this point has only informed
PennDOT of its intentions.
“First,” Potzer said, ‘‘Penn-
DOT will have to make approxi-
mately $200,000 worth of
repairs, including the installe-
tion of drains, guardrails and
resurfacing and paving of the
shoulders.’ Potzer said the
work probably will begin in 1987
when the weather breaks. The
project will be funded by the
Department of Transportation’s
Turnback Program and will be
at no cost to the taxpayers.
In other business:
— The board heard several
complaints from residents of
Fire Cut Road who say the road
is being poorly maintained. Res-
idents want the road paved but
Township solicitor Atty. Ben R.
Jones said that one reason the
road cannot be paved is that it
only 15 feet wide. He said road-
ways must be 33 feet wide in
order to qualify for reimburse-
ment of funds by the state.
— Rejected a subdivision for
plan for the Woodridge 11 devel-
opment near Sutton Road
because of concern over the
water runoff situation.
— Approved the following
appointments to the township
water commission: Deloris
Sesiensky, Harris Hill Road,
Trucksville; Robert H. Nat-
tress, Jr., Armstrong Dr., Shav-
ertown and ‘James Ward,
Tamanini Dr., Wyoming.
— Accepted a high bid of
$2,600 from the Lake Township
Board of Supervisors to buy the
township’s 1983 Plymouth Fury
cruiser.
— Approved an ordinance
requiring dumpsters at all new
building construction sites for
the purpose of discouraging
abuse of the township’s open
burning law by contractors.

Kingston Township
No one was seriously injured
Saturday night as a result of a
two-car crash along Rt. 309 in
Kingston Township.
Michael Sheridan, 18, 69 Par-
rish St., Dallas, was treated and
released from the Wilkes-Barre
General Hospital after being
removed from his car by the
Jaws of Life. Neither Thomas J.
Susz, 48, 7 Brookside Road, Box
373, Tunkhannock and operator
of the second vehicle, nor his
wife, Janice Ann, a passenger,
were injured.
According to reports, Sheridan
was traveling south on Rt. 309
when he lost control of his
vehicle , slid sideways across
the southbound lane and into the
northbound where it struck the
Susz car. The Sheridan vehicle
then slid off the berm of the
road and struck a bridge wall
before flipping over. Investigat-
ing officers were James Balav-
age and Michael Moravec.
Dallas Township
A bizarre incident involving
two separate accidents within 10
minutes of each other at the
same location in Dallas Town-
ship Friday morning resulted in
two individuals being struck by
a car and a Dallas Township
cruiser being damaged.
In the first accident at approx-
imately 8:21 a.m., three vehi-
cles were involved in a mishap
on Lake Street near College
Misericordia.
Two college workers operating
a 1979 GMC dump truck were
parked on the south bound lane
of the street when a second
vehicle driven by Bernadine
Bator, 62, of College Manor
noticed the truck did not have
its flashers on. Bator then
pulled up along side the truck to
inform the workers about the
flashers when a 1978 Impala
driven by Kathleen Oravitz, 42,
also of College Manor, traveling
south impacted both vehicles.
The Oravitz car had to be
towed while the other vehicles
were removed off to the right
berm with part of the cars
remaining on the road. Dallas
Township police Carl Miers
investigated the incident.
Meanwhile, the unmarked
township cruiser, which was
parked at the rear of the truck
with its four-way flashers on,
was struck by a vehicle driven
by Louis Dagnick, 52, College
Manor, who was traveling
south.
Dagnick said he was blinded
by the sun when his his car
struck the rear of the cruiser
and the side of the truck before
hitting the two pasasengers of
the truck who had been standing
in front of their vehicle.
Daniel Lazar, 38, of Luzerne
and Douglas Pallup, - 30, from
Kingston, were both injured and
taken to the Nesbitt Memorial
Hospital by the Dallas ambul-
ance where they were treated
and later released. The Dagnick
vehicle had to be towed from
the scene. _
Dallas Borough police chief
Ed Lyons investigated the inci-
dent since it is the township’s
policy not to investigate any
accidents involving their own
vehicles.
Eugene Shelley, Fenwood
Drive, reported the theft of his
1986 Ford Mustang Monday
morning which he says was
stolen from his garage. Shelley
told police he parked the vehicle
in the garage and locked it
when someone entered the
structure, disconnected the elec-
tric door and removed the car.
Four windows were shot out at
the Dallas Senior High it was
reported on Friday. The
damage may have been done
with a pellet gun and follows an
identical incident which had
occurred a week before at the
Junior High.
