ALICE WALKER, the author
of ‘“The Color Purple” will
come to Penn State Wilkes-
Barre via a live satellite tele-
cast Wednesday, November 5,
at 9 p.m. in the Hayfield House
Community Room. The public is
invited, free of charge.
Ms. Walker will discuss her
views on literature and writing,
the controversies surrounding
her novel, “The Color Purple’,
and her views on feminism,
apartheid, and relationships
between the sexes and the
races.
The Alice Walker telecast is
offered free of charge to the
public, but reservations are
requested. Refreshments will be

Courtdale, Pa. Refreshments

VETERANS OF THE VIET-
NAM WAR, Post 2, will meet,
Thursday, Nov. 6, at 8 p.m. at
the Coral Lounge, 245 Owen St.,
Swoyersville. A film will be
shown, and refreshments
served.
The Veterans of the Vietnam
War, Inc. is a full service orga-

THE ANNUAL FALL
BAZAAR of the Trucksville
United Methodist Church will be
held Thursday, Nov. 6 from 4
p.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday, Nov.
7 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the
Education Building across from
the church.
There will be many home-
made items suitable for Christ-
mas gifts which will include
women’s and children’s sweat-
ers, Christmas ornaments, one-
of-a-kind dolls, wreaths, hand-
painted china and trays and
other kitchen articles. Home-
made baked goods and candy
will also be sold.
Supper will be served on
Thursday evening beginning at
5 p.m. and both lunch and
supper will be served on Friday
beginning at 12 and 5. The menu
will include chicken a la King,
wimpies, hot dogs, chili, tuna
platters and homemade pies.

rial Hospital Auxiliary will hold
a meeting on Friday, November
7, at 1 p.m. at the St. Paul
Lutheran Church of Shaver-

THE LEHMAN UNITED
METHODIST CHRISTIAN Fel-
lowship Group will hold a
family-style roast beef dinner at
the Lehman United Methodist
Church on Saturday, Nov. 8.
Takeouts will be from 4-4:30
p.m., and serving starts at 4:30
p.m. Tickets are $5.50 for
adults, $2.75 for children ages 5-
12, and children ages 4 and
under are free.
The menu includes roast beef,
mashed potatoes and gravy,
green beans, carrots supreme,
pepper hash, applesauce, rolls-
butter, homemade pie, coffee or
tea.
Tickets may be purchased
from any member of the Chris-
tian Fellowship Group or at the

AUXILIARY will hold its
annual Christmas Boutique on
Saturday, Nov. 8 from 10 a.m.
to 7 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 9
from noon until 6 p.m. at Mercy
Center, Dallas.
Many handmade Christmas
wreaths, tree skirts, toys, orna-
ments, quilted pillows and var-
ious holiday gifts and: decora-
tions will be available for sale.
Baked goods will be sold and
refreshments will be served.
Anyone who would like to
donate baked goods is asked to
take them to Mercy Center on
Saturday or Sunday morning.

KNOWN MUSICIANS Leona
Buyse, flute and Barry Hanni-
gan, piano, will appear in con-
cert at Wilkes College on Satur-
day, November 8 at 8 p.m. in
Gies Hall of the music building.

DR. JEFF STERNLIEB will
be conducting a course on Sys-
tematic Training for Effective
Parenting, a realistic and sensi-
ble approach to parent-child
relationships. This workshop is
sponsored by the Trucksville
Nursery School and will be held
at the Trucksville United Meth-
odist Church Educational Build-
ing.
The workshop will be held for
nine consecutive weeks on
Monday evening from 7:30 to 9
a.m. beginning, November 17,
with a few exceptions during the
holidays.
Cost for this workshop is $50
per person at $75 per couple.
