A dance band from the Penn State University Park campus
will provide the ‘‘big band sound’’ for the second Black Tie
Ball to be held on the Penn State Wilkes-Barre campus
Saturday, October 25. The event, sponsored by Arts at
8 p.m. to midnight. Reservations can be made by
contacting Joan Diana at the campus at 675-2171.

Planning event
Wilkes-Barre General Hospital Auxiliary members recently
met to plan the guest list for the 18th annual Starlight Ball.

Saturday, Nov. 22 at the Woodlands Inn and Resort. From

Rachael Aileen Weiss, daughter of
Jim and Janet Weiss, Hunlock
Creek, won first runner-up in the
‘Baby Beautiful Pageant” spon-
sored by Kizia Modeling Agency
which was held in the Community
Room of Pomeroy’s Wyoming
Valley Mall, this September.
She received a trophy and will
participate in a spring fashion show
featuring all the pageant winners of
the “Baby Beautiful’’ contest.
Rachael is the granddaughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Steve Lipka, Hunlcok
Creek and the great-granddaughter
of Mrs. Jennie Yanchik, Nanticoke.
This is Rachael’s first Beauty

Screenings for trick-or-treaters on
Halloween, October 31 and on Satur-
day, November 1.
Residents are urged to take their
treats to Nesbitt Memorial Hospital,
between 7 and 9:30 p.m. on October
31 and between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on
November 1.
In addition to the screenings, chil-
dren will receive free bandaid dis-
pensers, balloons and other assorted
treats.
