Volunteers are needed for the
Domestic Violence Service Center, a
United Way member agency, which
provides services to victims of
spouse abuse and family violence.
The D.V.S.C. is looing for people
who are interested in: staffing the
Hotline; providing support and
counseling to victims of domestic
court and legal proceedings; assist-
ing in community education
projects; assisting in the Children’s
Program; working on the Newslet-
ter and clerical projects.
D.V.S.C. will be conducting volun-
teer training starting Wednesday,
Oct. 8 at 6 p.m. which will run for
six consecutive sessions.

Auxiliary will sponsor its biggest
fund-raising event of the year when
it holds its 17th annual Starlight
Ball on Saturday, November 22 at
The Woodlands.
The event will begin with cock-
tails at 8 p.m., followed by a gour-
met dinner at 9 p.m. and dancing
until 1 a.m. Music will be provided
by the Ken James Orchestra.
The ball is Wyoming Valley’s
largest and most elegant social

event, attended by over 800 persons
each year. Planning for the event
takes several months ‘and involves
dozens of Auxiliary members. The
menu and decorations are a closely
guarded secret until the night of the
ball and are always planned to
focus on a special theme chosen for
each annual event.
The awarding of a Mercedes-
Benz, 190 class is another highlight
of the ball. Only 350 tickets are sold
for the drawing.

DR. SAM J. GUARNIERI
Sam J. Guarnieri D.D.S. is
pleased to announce the opening
of his office for the practice of
family dentistry at The Pensieri
Professional Building, 270 South
River Street, Plains.
A native of Wyoming Valley,
Dr. Guarnieri graduated from the
University of Scranton with a
degree in Biology, and completed
his dental studies at Temple Uni-
versity Dental School. While at
Temple, he was a member of the
Oral Surgery Honor Society and
participated in an Oral Cancer
Screening Program held at various
locations in Philadelphia. Since
graduation, he has taken continu-
ing. education seminars on topics
of interest such as cosmetic bond-
ing, peridontal (gum) treatment,
endodontics (root canal), and pre-
ventive dentistry. Dr. Guarnieri is
also a part-time faculty member
of Luzerne County Community Col-
lege in the dental program.
As a general dentist, Dr. Guar-
nieri offers a wide range of dental
services for children and adults.
For those people who may be
anxious about dental treatment,
nitrous oxide is available for
relaxing dentistry. Dr. Guarnieri
welcomes all dental insurance
plans and he is a member of Blue
Shield and Delta Dental.
Dr. Guarnieri and his wife,
Alexis, reside in Wilkes-Barre.
Office hours are daily, evenings
and Saturday. In addition, 24 hour
emergency care is also available.
