Yvonne is 13 years old and in the 9th grade at Dallas Junior High. She has been collecting these soaps at various gift shops while’ shopping during her travels for about six months. She has loaned us 52 of these soaps which are all scented. Many of the soaps are seashells and I had to look up the names of some of them. After just having had a 3 month display of shells, I should have remembered their names; however, I didn’t. There is a whie sand dollar, a green snail shell, a purple scallop shell, an aqua star- fish, red puppy, yellow duck, green Christmas tree, blue bear, chocolate candy bear, pink rabbit, orange swan, red heart, chocolate candy drop, pink balloon, red strawberry; to name a few. On top of the display is a large pink scallop shell. These soaps make a very nice display and are already attracting attention. They will be at the library until November 30. The Book Club will hold its first meeting of the new season on Monday, Sept. 15 at 1:30 in the reference room of the library. This will be a joint meeting with the Garden Club who’s president, Mrs. Frederick Anstett, will conduct a short business meeting before the program. Mrs. Florence Crump will preside at the Book Club meeting and invites members and guests to attend this meeting. Mrs. Isabelle Robinson, program chairman of the Garden Club has planned an inter- esting program. Refreshments will be served. One of the posters which I have collected at the American Library Association conference in New York City is now hanging on our bulletin board. It features the Dell Yearling Classics which is a distinguished new imprint, featuring works of literary merit by English and Amer- ican classic and contemporary writ- ers. These classics will give a child a library to delight in year after year with titles such as: Eight Cousins, Five Little Peppers, Hans Brinker, The Prince and the Pauper, Rose in Bloom, Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm and Little Lord Fauntleroy. These are stories that have been loved for generations. Took a quick trip out to the Fall Fair with a friend last week after bowling just in time to catch the second show performed by Boxcar Willie and the Texas Trainmen. He does a terrific impression of a whistling choo choo and sang some well-loved country and western songs. There were throngs of people there and the weather was just A young child was leaving the children’s room with her selection of books and told us about the Cookie Monster and Big Bird of Sesame Street doing a television appearance about libraries. She was quite impressed and came to our library from Shickshinny for a visit. (Nancy Kozemchak is the assist- ant librarian at the Back Mountain Memorial Library. Her column appears weekly.)
