The time everyone waits for all year. My family is no exception. Since my car had been in the garage for quite a few weeks, we were doubly anxious to go to the shore where you really can relax and enjoy yourself. Day one: on the way down we had not one but two sem flat tires. We had to be towed from the turnpike, and have both tires fixed. A trip that should have ' taken about three and one half hours, took seven hours. Finally we arrive. When you have a pop-up camper, the first thing you do is set up. I was in the | camper, rolling out the sleeping bags when a bat started flying . around. I ended up sitting there in 80 degree weather with an JOAN KINGSBURY unfolded sleeping bag over my head until Bill could rescue me. Dinner at Pizza Hut was the highlight of our day. The next day dawned bright and sunny. We spent a wonderful day at Island Beach State Park. The water was warm, the waves were reasonably high, and the beach was not crowded. We had a wonderful day. Sunny was rainy, but we made the best of it. Went to church, to a craft shop, then to see Karate Kid II, a great movie. We arrived at our campsite a little later than usual for dinner, so we ate around 8 o’clock. The kids were watching our little television when a notice came across the screen. Hurricane Charlie was likely to hit the New Jersey shore between 10 Sunday night and 10 Monday morning. Programs for student aid remain uncut College students and their parents who fear that federal budget cuts have dried up the available pool of student aid funds should take heart, ° ¢ Socording. to formation released J 3-Subject NOTEBOOKS... 89° § i this week by James A. Reeher, Executive Director of the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA). The traditional sources of student aid will be available this fall. Congress has repeatedly rejected the massive student aid cuts pro- posed by the Reagan Administra- tion. In fact, Ream said, “From the very early years of the Reagan administration, since 1980, Congress has consistently refused to slash federal student aid funds. “For 1986-87, the federal budget for student aid is one of the few budget areas not frozen or cut back. “ Federal student aid funds will actually increase in the next fiscal year.” HR 200 Sheets What to do was the question? A tent camper offers little protection in harsh winds and teeming rain. We listened for a little while longer. When the National weather service affirmed its prediction: At ten o’clock in the pitch dark with only flashlights for light, we started to break down camp. By midnight we were on our way home. This time our trip took only three and hours. At least we had an uneventful trip back home. This paragraph you are not going to believe but I have my daughter Nicole and a saleslady to verify my statement. After we returned from the shore, I took the girls shopping for school. While in a restoom in a store I notice something long and thin, like a fat shoelace, on the hinge of the door. Closer inspection revealed that it was a small snake. I told the saleslady who hysteri- cally called maintenance to remove it. She reported that there had been another snake in a fitting room the day before. Someone’s idea of a joke, I guess. If you think you hear the theme from Twilight Zone, that’s just how I felt. But I don’t want you to think that the Kingsburys only have bad luck. This weekend we had a wonderful time staying in the Forkston area. We went to the Harford Fair, and it didn’t rain and no animals stampeded or anything. We went out for dinner at the Mountain House Inn in New Albany, a great place to eat. We also visited the Tiffany Factory outlet above Meshoppen where you can shop for a variety of things at good prices. It seems our luck has changed! Notebook Filler...
