By JOHN HOINSKI Staff Writer What started five years ago with a field of less than 150 participants, the Greater Wilkes-Barre Triathlon, Mountain Triathlon, has grown to the point where this year’s event will include the No. 1 triathlete in the world. Scott Molina of Boulder, Colo., will head a contingent of approxi- mately 100 professional triathletes in this years 5th Annual event which will also include Liz Bulman from Columbia, Missouri, winner of the recent Chicago triathlon, the largest in terms of numbers of such events. “We thought if we could attract 40 professionals this year we would have done fantastically well,” Jerry Kowalski, Race Director, said. “But when Scott Molina and Liz Bulman confirmed they were coming, the field of professionals entering just mushroomed. We already have 95 pros coming.” The race, which will begin at Harvey’s Lake at 8 a.m. on Sunday, is expected to draw 500 men and women from across the Northeast, the Mid-Atlantic states and other parts of the nation and Canada. “We had 140 people participate in our first year,” Kowalski noted. “Many of them were local athletes. But now we have a good deal of people in the age groups coming in from all over; New York State, Virginia, Georgia, Vermont. It’s amazing.” The race will also be taking on a new look this year, being split into the open (professional) division and the Age Group Divisions, and for the first time cash prizes will be awarded in the open bracket. First place winners in the male and female groups will each receive a $5,000 cash prize while the top \\ 1 sc SP ah @ wond%, a whe 3 o® SERVICE PRESENT THE IF YOU OR SOME COUPLE YOU KNOW ARE HAVING A 50th WEDDING ANNIVERSARY THIS YEAR, ENTER THE WORLD OF ERTLEY'S 50th ANNIVERSARY CONTEST. Thousands of people are finding that learning income tax prepara- tion is the perfect way to supple- ‘ment their incomes. Many people use the tax prepa- ration skills they learn in H&R ‘Block’s Income Tax Course to add to their income. H&R Block is now offering its basic income tax course starting September 3rd and 4th. Morning and evening classes available. No prerequisites are required to enroll. 7 During the 13 week course, stu- dents will study various phases of income tax preparation and receive actual experience in pre- paring individual returns. Experi- enced Block instructors will teach tax law, theory and application, as practiced in Block offices nation- wide. There is a classroom discus- sion on each tax subject and many practice problems. Courses are programmed to teach students increasingly complex tax prob- lems as study progresses. Students will find the course both interest- ing and challenging. Because tax preparation is needed during the months of Janu- ary through April, you can put your skills to use immediately during the winter months and may be able to make enough extra money to pay off Christmas bills or make money for that summer vacation. Qualified course graduates may be offered job interviews for posi- tions with Block. Many accept employment with Block because of the flexible hours available. How- ever, Block is under no obligation to offer employment, nor are grad- uates under any obligation to accept employment with H&R' Block. One low course fee includes all. textbooks, supplies and tax forms necessary for the completion of the course. Certificates and 7.5 continuing education units will be awarded upon successful comple- tion of the course. Registration forms and a brochure for the income tax course may be obtained by contacting the H&R Block office at 211 Wyoming Ave., Kingston, telephone 288-9367. - IS A REAL ESTATE CAREER IN YOUR FUTURE? salesperson’s examination. — PENN STATE CELEBRATION "WILKES-BARRE 70 Continuing Education, P.O.
