    Mary Beshel
Sister Mary Colette Beshel,
R.S.M., a sister of Mercy for 60
years, died August 17 in the Mercy
Center Convent, Dallas.
Born in Trevorton, Pa., she
received her BA degree from Col-
lege Misericordia and her MA
degree in French from Villanova
University.
She entered the Sisters of Mercy
in 1921 at the Maclay Street Con-
vent, Harrisburg. During her
career, she taught both grade and
high schools and served on the staff
of College Misericordia from 1964 to
1970 where she served as chairper-
son of the foreign language depart-
ment and also Dean of Studies.
Prior to retirement in 1981, she was
involved with parish duty.
Surviving are sister, Mrs. Marlin
Kramer and nephew, Dr. C.A.
Kramer, both of Atlantic City, New
Jersey.
Ruth Evans
Ruth M. Evans, 85, of 43 Turner
St., Plymouth died August 13 in the
Meadows Nursing Center, Dallas.
Born in Plymouth, she was a
member of St. Clement and Peter
Episcopal Church, Wilkes-Barre.
Surviving are her daughter, Mrs.
Ruth E. Thomas, Plymouth; two
grandchildren. Her husband,
Arthur, died in 1977.
Beatrice Keener
Mrs. Beatrice A. Keener, 80, of
130 W. Union St., Kingston, died
August 11 in the Nesbitt Memorial
Hospital, Kingston, where she was
admitted after being stricken ill at
home.
Born at Harveys Lake, she had
resided in Kingston for the past 45
years, previously residing for sev-
eral years in Dallas.
Surviving are sons, Paul J.,
Kingston; Harold C. Jr., Luzerne;
daughters, Mrs. Jane Handlos,
Washington, N.J.; Mrs. Lois Lauer,
Luzerne; brother, Percy Higgins,
Harveys Lake; sisters, Mrs. Caro-
line Kinsman, Tunkhannock; Mrs.
Elsie Jones, Harveys Lake; four
grandchildren. Her husband, Harold
C. Keener Sr., preceded her in
death in 1973.

TWO BACK MOUNTAIN RESI-
DENTS are among 26 Wilkes Col-
lege students who will attend profes-
sional programs this fall in the
areas of medicine, pharmacy, den-
tistry, podiatry, optometry and
physical therapy. Their acceptances
into the programs were announced
recently by Dr. Ralph Rozelle, Dean
of Health Sciences at Wilkes Col-
lege.
Lisa Mikulis, of Shavertown, will
enter the University of Health Sci-
ences, Kansas City Osteopathic
Medicine; while John Handley, a
resident of Dallas, will enter the
University of Maryland Dental
School.
According to Rozelle, many of the
students will enter affiliated pro-
grams with schools of health sci-
ences. Affiliated arrangements
allow Wilkes College students early
admission in to the program. After
completing the designated academic
requirements at an affiliated institu-
tion, students can petition Wilkes
College for graduation and receive
their undergraduate degrees.

MICHAEL J. TRUCHON, of Hun-
lock Creek, is one of 36 stand and
county correctional employees who
recently completed three weeks of
basic training at the Pennsylvania
Department of Corrections’ new
training academy in Lower Allen
Township near Camp Hill.
Truchon is an electrical trades
instructor at the State Correctional
Institute at Dallas.
During the three-week basic train-
ing, courses such as communica-
tions skills, inmate behavior, self-
defense, understanding and dealth
with narcotics, search procedures,
report writing and riot control are
offered. The purpose of the course is
to familiarize and prepare employ-
ees for work in an institution set-
ting.

PVT. 1ST CLASS BROCK A. BUL-
LOCK, son of Robert Bullock of
Rural Route 2 and Barbara Schall
of 92 Tunkhannock Highway, both of
Dallas, has completed an Army
tank tureet repair course at Aber-
deen Proving Ground, Maryland.
Students learned to perform main-
tenance on the mechanical, electri-
cal and hydraulic components of the
armament installed in tanks and
other combat vehicles.

PVT. THOMAS P. MYERS, son of
Verna E. Zosh of Rural Route 4,
Dallas, has completed the basic
field artillery cannoneer course
under the one station unit training
(OSUT) program at Fort Sill, Okla-
homa.
During the course, students were
taught the ‘duties of a howitzer or
gun section crewman. They also
received instruction in communica-
tions, maintenance and the handling
of ammunition and explosives.
OSUT is a program that combines
basic training with advanced indi-
vidual training.

TOMASKO, whose husband, Henry,
is the son of Henry J. Tomasko, of
Dallas, has been meritoriously pro-

Family Service Association of Wyo-
ming Valley and a resident of the
Back Mountain, has recently begun
staffing the agency’s satellite office
at Trinity United Presbyterian
Church in the Dallas area. She is
available to do invidiual, marital
and family counseling on Fridays
from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Family Service Association has
been staffing the office at Trinity
United Presbyterian Church for the
past three years, making it possible
for persons in the Back Mountain
area to receive counseling services
without driving to Wilkes-Barre.
In addition to her responsibiklity
at the Dalas office, Beth Ann has
been designated as Employee
fornia.
Tomasko received the accelerated
promotion in recognition of out-
standing performance, duty profi-
ciency and demonstrated profes-
sional abilities.
A 1979 graduate of Northwestern
Lehigh High School, New Tripoli,
she joined the Marine Corps in May
1984.

Valley in 1888, was held July 26, at
Moon Lake State Park, Plymouth
Township.
After a buffet picnic lunch, a brief
meeting was held, presided over by
Secretary-Treasurer, Linda (Swel-
gin) Anesi. Devotions by Elmer
Swelgin. Games were played and
prizes awarded.

pleted training as an Army military
police specialist under the one sta-
