Kingston Township is among 13
local communities which have
earned Pedestrian Safety Citations
from the American Automobile
Association for their achievements
in the prevention of pedestrian
fatalities and injuries.
Kingston Township, along with
Kingston Borough and Plymouth
Borough, were honored for six years
without a pedestrian fatality.
Communities with over 5000 popu-
lation are eligible for the award.
presented by AAA clubs across the
country in the Federation’s 47th
Annual Pedestrian Protection Pro-
gram.
Pat Higgins, safety director, said
more than 2,619 cities and 23 states
participated in the AAA surey which
evaluates and recognizes outstand-
ing pedestrian safety achievements
of participating communities for the
previous calendar year.
A special citation for outstanding
pedestrian accident record was
presented to West Pittston Borough.
Other communities receiving
awards include Pittston City, 11
years without a pedestrian fatality;
Berwick Borough, 7 years; Exeter
Borough and Forty Fort Borough, 5
years; Duryea Borough, a
ville Borough and Nanticoke City, 4
years. Wilkes-Barre City and Plains
Township will recieve the local AAA
Distinguished Safety Service
Award.
An awards presentation luncheon
will be held at the.Sheraton Cross-
gates on September 4 -

Hit-run car
Shown here is a vehicle driven by Greg Pavesi of RD 2, Box 112-A, Tunkhannock, after it landed
in the yard of Leonard Roginski, RD 3, Dallas last Wednesday morning. Pavesi’'s vehicle was
earlier that day involved a hit and run accident on Main Street, Dallas, when a vehicle belonging
to Lorraine Coburn, RD 1, Harveys Lake, was struck. After striking the Coburn vehicle, the
Pavesi vehicle continued approximately 2 1-2 miles before it went out of control, struck a pole
and landed in Roginski’s yard.
