It is debatable if the meek will
inherit the earth, but if the current
baseball standings hold true for the
rest of the season, the meek have a
lot better chance than I thought.
Just the fact that Cleveland isn’t
holding up the rest of the league has
to be encouraging to every 98-pound
weakling that ever had sand for
lunch.
At the start of the season, I
questioned why teams like
Cleveland, Houston, San Francisco
and Texas even bothered to play the
season. Now I know. It is to
compete for divisional titles.
My keen baseball judgement is
what keeps me behind a typewriter.

1 JUST LOVE THE REASON
given by Peter Ueberroth on why
there is no plan to test baseball
players for drugs: We don’t have a
drug problem, so we don’t need any
testing.
Brilliant. I guess we can disband
our Army because we aren’t
currently under attack.
Who hired this bonehead anyway?
I would have loved to have
Ueberroth as my mother when I
was growing up.

THE PHILLIES have to get rid of
‘Sorry Charlie’ Hudson. Not to be
unkind, but the guy stinks. Trade
him to the Yankees.

BRAD DAUGHERTY, the first
choice in the NBA draft, rated the
drug problem in college athletics,
“Oh, it’s seven to eight easily and
it’s something that has to be looked
at very closely.” The scale was one
to 10. Somehow that is not a
revelation.
Don’t get me wrong. I'm not
against some form of pressure to
force athletes into fly right. I just
get real nervous when personal
rights become the price to be paid.
Hey, once rights are gone, we are
all in a lot of trouble. They could
take all our rights and there would
still be plenty of drugs around.
Remember that.

THE USFL ANTI-TRUST CASE is
not going well for the NFL. The
reason is fairly simple: the NFL is
guilty of violating the Sherman Act.
Ronald Reagan is probably going
to make me a judge for this. Hey,
I'm as qualified as any of the other
judges he has appointed.

Sunbu mn can
be avoided
Every year about 400,000 new
cases of skin cancer occur in the
United States. The vast majority
are caused by overexposure to the
sun.
According to Alexander B.
Rakow, deputy secretary for Com-
munity Health, in the State Health
Department, serious sunburn and
its consequences can be avoided
with a little preparation and precau-
tion.
