MOTO CROSS RACING - it’s got
to be the most unnerving sport in
history. Saturday evening we drove
to Evansville, just a little below
Berwick to watch over two
Russ races 4 wheelers, Rod races
3 wheelers. Both of them took a 2nd
place in the 1st round, it was very
exciting to see them pass all the
machines and keep movingup to the
number 2 spot.
About one
quarter of one set
of bleachers was
filled with Back
Mountain
residents all
rooting for local
guys. Danny
Yurko of Sweet
Valley raced
motorcycle and
so did Tim
Chapin (his
mother is the
former Pat
Masters of Sweet Valley).
I’m not sure where they finished,
I couldn’t watch, Danny was in 1st
place until someone got hurt pretty
badly and they stopped that race,
once they started over I didn’t look.
Lessie Lynn of Sweet Valley also
raced.
Moto Cross racing, you must go
see at least one race - one thing for
sure they would all make good
pilots because they are in the air 90
percent of the race. :

JESSIE HAGENBACH of Lehman
is a surgical patient in Wilkes-Barre
General Hospital. Jessie and her
husband have a guest home in
Lehman. The ladies will be well
taken care of by her daughter and
husband’s supervision.
Jessie is a very color consicous
person, I know she will be a delight
to everyone around her while she’s
in the hospital. If her nightgown is
pink today, I can assure you her
eyeshadow, earrings, blush,
bathrobe and bedroom slippers will
all match. Every outfit she wears is
a “total look.”
A very interesting person, she is -
and a very speedy get well wish to
you, Jessie.

SURPRISE MOM! There stood
Lynn Leachey, daughter of
Georgine Leachey of Shavertown,
who was supposed to be in England
where she is stationed with the Air
Force until 1988.
It was a sad day for Georgine, her
son Sean had just left for a hitch in
the Navy at Great Lakes, Ill., the
day before and Mom was feeling
rather down when Lynn appeared at
home for a short leave until July 18,
when she’ll return to England. Sean
is a 1986 Dallas graduate and he will
be serving a four-year hitch with
the Navy.
Lynn, her twin sister and their
Mom were all smiling when we
talked. I know they are just talking
20 hours a day all about England,
and all it has to offer and Georgine
forgot all about being lonely.

TIM EVANS, son of Paul and
Dorla Jean Evans of Shavertown,
also joined the Navy. Tim left for
Orlando, Florida where he will
begin training for a four-year hitch.
Tim is the grandson of Esther
Nicely of Shavertown.

where she visited a cousin, General

JACK AND SHEILA
MCALLISTER along with family
and friends spent last Tuesday
enjoying Hershey Park. The
McAllisters are fairly new to our
area, they live in Sutton Hills,
Shavertown, where they purchased
their home about a year ago.
Sheila operates an electrolysis
shop in the Professional Bldg. in
Dallas, her husband, is vice
president of manufacturing for Frye
Shoes. The senior McAllisters,
Harold and Frances are visiting
from Georgia.
Sheila and Jack are flying to
Boston for the weekend to attend a
party to honor the new owners of
the Frye Shoe Co., while Grandma
and Grandpa babysit and enjoy the
kids. A trip to Steamtown in
Scranton and fireworks on the 4th of
July at Harveys Lake were two
must-do for the family this
weekend.

JEAN BLISS, Buffalo, New York,
spent a month visiting her daughter
Rita Cord and her family at
Centermoreland. Mrs. Bliss had a
great vacation until last week when
she broke a tooth, and worse yet,
came down with a terrible case of
poison ivy. Calamine Lotion and
Cortaid in hand, she left our area
for New York.
Sure hope she’s got it all under
control now. I know she had a great
time anyhow, because she not only
visited daughter but also
grandchildren and great-
grandchildren.

LEON TRAGER, former assistant
principal at Dallas Jr. High and
family moved to Quarryville, Pa. on
the weekend where he will begin a
new position as principal of Smith
Middle School in Quarryville.
We wish the Tragers well in their
move, the Lancaster area is a
beautiful place to live.

PAT AND ED NICELY and
children, Amber and Adam have
purchased the Decker home on
Sterling Avenue, Dallas. The
Nicelys are moving from Main
Street, Dallas. They are not new to
our area, but they still need to be
made welcome on their street. Be
sure and stop by and welcome Pat
and Ed.

WELCOME TO ANN FARVER,
our Bill’s wife, and daughter
Melanie, as they are visiting our
family this week from Alabama.
The two ladies left Alabama on
Thursday night via car and arrived
in Sweet Valley at midnight Friday.
Melanie drove and says they
stopped at a motel for a few hours,
too! Seems like the Farver family
are all racers. By the way, Rod took
second place overall at the races
Saturday night as he rolled the trike
at the finish line.
