celebration
Harry B. Davenport, 111, Shaver-
town, has been selected to partici-
pate in the Statue of Liberty Colle-
giate All-American Band, which will
be performing during the Liberty
Weekend celebration to be held in
New York City.
The band consists of members
from marching bands throughout
the U.S.A.
Harry, a 1981 graduate of Dallas
Senior High School, has been a
member of the Penn State Blue
Band throughout his collegiate
career.
He has made appearances in the
1982 Fiesta Bowl, 1983 Sugar Bowl
and the 1986 Orange Bowl Parade
and Bowl Game.
The Liberty Band will be perform-
ing on T.V. world-wide for the
Opening and Closing ceremonies
plus selected appearances over the
weekend.
Play Day held
Dallas Township kindergarten
mothers hosted a special play day
recently for the morning and after-
noon kindergarten classes at the
Dallas Township School.
The day’s activities were held in
the morning and the afternoon with
mothers of the morning classes
volunteering for those students and
the afternoon classes supervised by
mothers of these students.
Various games were played,
obstacle coruses were run and spe-
cial appearances were by ‘‘Gar-
field” and Magician-Clown Pat
Ward. Ward presented balloons
made into various shapes of ani-
mals and other objects to the chil-
dren.
Popcorn and snow cones were
served to, children throughout the
day and a special treat bag was
given to each child.

staff members were honored by the
campus Circle K Club for contribut-
ing the most to the welfare of the
student body at a recent awards
banquet. ;
Recipient of the Clyde Birth
Memorial Award for Fall, 1985 was
John R. Murphy of Dallas, Director
of Student Programs and Services.
For Spring 1986, the recipient was
the late Fran Brown, of Dallas,
receptionist at the campus for the
pas 14 years, who died from injuries
suffered in a recent car accident.
The Birth Memorial Award was
established by the Penn State
Wilkes-Barre Circle K in memory of
Mr. Clyde Birth, past president of
Circle K’s sponsor, the Dallas
Kiwanis Club.
