I RECENTLY FOUND OUT that
one of my favorite junior high
school teachers passed away. Miss
Jessica Thomas, who resided in
Noxen her entire life, was my
reading teacher when I was a junior
high school student at Lake-Lehman
High School.
Stricken with polio in her teenage
years, Miss Thomas went on to
graduate from College Misericordia
and to become a fine teacher.
Despite her handicap from polio,
she had a successful 33 year
teaching career.
She was one of the most
courageous people I knew (she was
awarded for her courage by College
Misericordia.) She was an old-
fashioned techer - strict, exact but
fair and interested in her students.

JUNIOR GIRL SCOUT TROOP
66% of Shavertown has returned
from a camping trip at Camp
Louise in Berwick. This annual
oul:ing is always loads of fun for the
girls. Speaking from experience, it
carn be a little unnerving for the
leaders, especially if your troop is |

areas where it is very dark.
Camp Louise does provide the
girls with lots of opportunities for
fun with a beautiful swimming pool,
a nice lake for canoeing and boating
and planned activities available.
I guess it just isn’t summer
without at least one trip to Camp
Louise for our family. Attending
were: our daughter Nancy, Kara
Wyo itowicz, Valerie Marino, Valerie
Gorda, Heather Adams, Michelle
Metzger, Marianne Ochman, Karen
Wisniieski. Leaders Karen Adams
and Jennie Metzger deserve special
thanks for providing this outing for
the girls.
