THE DALLAS POST/Wednesday, June 4, 1986 ; ) ON . Balloon travels here from Canada in record time know exactly from what direction it could have come but it must have traveled more than 300 miles.” According to information on the card attached to the balloon, it was one of many balloons released by the Toronto school students in the city’s Eight Annual Inner City’s Balloon Race. Elizabeth was a student in Room 2E-I in the Chester School. Toronto Elementary School children have participated in the balloon race for the past eight years, and for every dollar a student raises, a balloon is released. This year more than 176 schools released more than 300,000 balloons. By CHARLOT M. DENMON Staff Correspondent Last Friday at 7 a.m., Mrs. Margaret Spence of Shavertown was preparing breakfast for her children when she looked out the window and saw something red in the backyard. She called her son John’s attention to the red object and he said it was a red beach ball. Later, Margaret Kile’s daughter, Patricia went out to get it and discovered it was a bright red balloon with a card attached to it. The card indicated that the balloon was sent from Toronto, Canada, by Elizabeth Mar, student at Chester School, on Thursday, May 29. “It’s difficult to believe that the balloon traveled so far in less than 24 hours,” said Mrs. Kile. “I don’t Dallas Post/Ed Campbell Classmates sought for 20th reunion held Saturday, Aug. 30 at the West- moreland Club. FAMILY - INDIVIDUALS - COUPLES stepchildren, the only difference being number of daughters or son. Both are great grandmothers and daughter, Joan Loisage, at 7 Arrow Lane, Sayville, Long Island, N.Y., usually visits Edna once each year. This year, she has visited several times due to the deaths in Edna’s family and her recent illness. Thora has been married twice. Her first husband was the late James McLaughlin of Brooklyn, N.Y., where they made their home. Following McLaughlin’s death, Thora married Leslie Sharland, who died 12 years ago. Following Shar- land’s death she moved to Long Island where she made her home with her daughter. Like Edna, Thora was employed in the medical field and is retired from New York City Department of Hospitals, Coney Island Division, where she was a Nutritionist Assist- ant. She has two daughters and two stepdaughters. Edna, in addition to her son and late daughter, has a stepson and stepdaughter. Both had the same number of children and like Edna, Thora’s hobbies are cro- cheting and sewing. She also likes music and is active in her church. Both twins attribute their long life to “Good, clean living and ‘Faith in the Lord’.” Both stated that they believed in the verse in Scripture which reads ‘Honor they Father and Mother, Long Life Thou Shalt Have” and that is what they lived. How did they observe their 80th birthday anniversary? They were guests of Edna’s son-in-law and granddaughter, Edna Mayeski, at a Wilkes-Barre Restaurant. Diners seeing them walk in will no doubt believe that they are seeing double. Dressed similarly, hair style the same and color the same, voices the dame, there is no doubt that they are twins...and if you know anyone named Barene, they are related to Edna and Thora. They are descendants of the only Barene family in Norway because their father took his last name from the name of the island when he came to America. PHONE: 675-1141 3 MAIN ST.
