Bowlers
return
to area
By CHARLOT M. DENMON
Staff Correspondent
Back Mountain bowlers returned
home from the Pennsylvania State
Woman’s Bowling Tournament look-
ing forward to entering again next
year when the tournament will be
held in the Chester area. All were
enthusiastic about the long weekend
they spent in Erie, some primarily
because of the games they bowled
and others just because they had a
good time.
For many it was the first time
they had entered the statewide com-
petition and they enjoyed meeting
members of other teams from other
parts of Pennsylvania. Others took
advantage of their leisure time to
visit Lake Erie, Presque Isle Park,
the historical museum and zoo and
various interesting landmarks.
For others, many who have been
entering the tournaments for quite a
few years, the highlight of the trip
were the high games bowled by
themselves or some of the other
entrants from this area.
Rachel Dymond, perhaps the
senior bowler at Bonomo’s Sports
Center, hit 481 in her singles and a
480 plus in team events. Sue Ter-
eska, bowling on the Brent Long
team, hit a 200 game while Connie
Doty and Nola Taylor, doubles part-
ners hit a high 1020. Doty was hot on
the lanes in both houses where the
girls bowled, hitting series of 201
(540), 522, and 500 in the team
event. Her Castlette team members
joined her in hitting high series as
the team rolled up 2378 points to
take over the top spot in their class
with only two more weekends of
bowling in the state tournament.
Arlene Hospodar had two 484
series while Libby Cyphers chalked
up 499 and 479 series. She and T.
Denmon combined for a 999 total in
doubles in Friday evening’s compe-
First place team
The Castlettes of Dallas came in first in the Pennsylvania
Womens Bowling Tournament in Erie last weekend with a
team total of 2394. Members o the team shown are Jeanne
Clark, Sharon Spencer, Arlene Hospodar, Nola Taylor and
Paul Reinert, Shavertown, Gloria
Rawls, Trucksville and Erik Eva-
nosky, Bear Creek, were the win-
ners in the Geisinger-Wyoming
Valley Medical Center’s 5K Health
Run and one mile Kids Run
recently.
Reinert was the overall champion
with a record setting time of 14:56,
Rawls was the female champion
with a time of 18:08, and Evanosky
won the Kid’s Run with a clocking
of 5:17.
Trophy winners in various age
groups were Tom Gelatko, Tom
Russ, Joanne Kadis, Ann Hinkle,
Brian Cain, Al Kircher, Carolyn
inger, Paul Reinert, L. Smith, Lui-
cille Houston, and Jim O’Donnell,
Larry Litsher, Bob Wasilewski,
Patricia Swartz, Don Embleton,
Richard Roskilly, Chuck Thoma,
Tim Tyson, Kevin Oley, John
Sobota, and Tom Simpson.
tition. Diane Balliet rolled a 474
series and Linda Maciejczak gar-
nered 478.
The Mixed Five team hit 2291
aided by Kay Scavone’s 180-177
(522) and Flo Allabaugh’s 186 (490).
Diane Garnett led the way for
Gordon Insurance with 183 (491),
Janet Lamoreaux added 171 (479)
and Pudgie Gordon rolled 186 (477).
Sharon Mathers posted a 173, and a
180 game and Nita Moser hit 175.
Next week most of these same
bowlers will enter the local associa-
tion tournament at L&S Lanes in
Nanticoke where they hope they will
do as well as they did in Erie, and
most of them and others are begin-
ning to make plans for Chester in
1987. With Atlantic City less than
two hours away, that should make
an exciting bowling or gambling (?)
weekend.

in the District 2 competition last
Friday with a time of 1:58.4 to
qualify for the state competition this
weekend at Shippensburg State Uni-
versity.
The Dallas relay team placed
fourth in the 400m relay and Dallas
came in second in the 3200 relay.
Mark Wright came in third in the
3200m run with a time of 10:08.2 and
a Dallas team placed fourth in the
1600 relay in 3:33.0 but none of these
times were good enough to qualify
for the state meet.
In the girls competition held Tues-
day of last week, Kristy Fairchild
set a new district record in the
discus with a distance of 114-2 to
qualify for the state competition.
Anne Balonis placed fourth in the
