‘‘A SWEET SMELLING FRA-
GRANCE” was the theme for a
special Mother-Daughter banquet
held on Saturday evening at the
Castle. Nearly 100 mothers, daugh-
ters, grandmothers, and in two fam-
ilies great-grandmothers gathered
for a time of sharing ‘Mother’s
Loves” with each other.
Special music
by mother-daugh-
ter singing team, |g
Nancy Sutliff and [=
Laura Long J
started the eve-
ning followed by
a dinner then for
the kids, ‘Slick
Nick’ the clown
(the mothers and
grandmothers
loved this too!). Slick Nick did a
unique presentation of Noah’s Arc
using people as the ark, the ani-
mals, etc.
Dallas’ own Barb Meyers and
Judy Williams represented the
cows. Gee, they learned their part
fast! Hand painted programs, table
decorations and ceramic pitrcher
and bowl filled with hand made
crocheted or silk flowers was the
centerpiece on each table. One of
the lovliest mother-daughtrer ban-
quets I’ve ever attended. Much of
the work and planning was headed
by Pat Dieffenbacher and Lynn
Fleming.
The evening ended with a
renowned speaker from New York,
Mrs. Ruth Rise. I had the pleasure
of my mother Ann Farver and both
my daughters, Loni and Lori to
share this great night with. The
sponsor of the event was the Evan-
gelical Free Church of Back Moun-
tain.

BOBBI KLEIN, well known Chiro-
practor in Dallas, had the pleasure
of her mother Mrs. Day who came
all the way from Tucson, Arizona,
to spend Mother’s Day with her
daughter and family. Bobbi and Al
Klein, both chiropractors in Dallas,
and their two children have a home
at Harveys Lake. We hope Mrs. Day
had an enjoyable stay with ehr
for traveling the farthest.

THE DOERFLER FAMILY of
Harveys Lake had their Mother’s
Day visit with Mrs. Doerfler’s
mother out near Pittsburgh a week
early. They traveled last weekend
and combined a Mother’s Day visit
along with attending the State Band
Chorus which was held in Pitts-
burgh. Three Lake-Lehman students
made State Band this year and
Danny Smith was one of them. Mrs.
Smith joined the Doerflers and all
attended this State Band Concert to
support the students.

ARLINE BERGAVIN is on the
move again too, and without
crutches. Arline is still gaining
strength in her legs from an auto
accident she was in several weeks
ago.
It was so good to see her ‘‘walk”
on her own last week, but two steps
behind her was her daughter Lor-
issa — in crutches! Lorissa tore the
ligaments in her foot playing base-
ball for her team at Bishop O'Reilly
where she pitches. Poor Sue, the
other daughter, was the strong one
agian. Oh well, Sue, it’s better to be
helping than hurting!

" DENISE DAVIS, one of my favor-
ite teenage people, is also on
crutches, Denise, wearing her all-
time smile, was shopping for her
mother while on crutches, also
having suffered an injury from
baseball!
Denise plays on the Lake-Lehman
team, or did until the injury. Base-
ball is not the calm game it once
was I'm beginning to think. My fear
was always football when my boys
were playing sports, I'm not sure
which is more dangerous.

CHRIS GIVENS spent a few days
in the hospital a while ago, also
stricken at a baseball game. I
believe he was affected by the heat
during the game. All will be good as
new, soon I’m sure.
Mr. and Mrs. James Roan, 54
Elizabeth St., Dallas, will observe
their 50th wedding anniversary May
16, at a dinner party at Bear Creek
Inn, given by their son and daugh-
ter-in-law.
They were married May 16, 1936,
in West Nanticoke Methodist
Church.
Mrs. Roan is the former Beatrice
Nash of West Nanticoke. She is a
long time member of the Ladies
Country League and the Imperi-
alette League at Bonomo’s Sports
Center, Dallas.
Mr. Roan was employed as a
driver for the Interstate Dress Car-
riers until his retirement eight
years ago.
The couple has one son, Jarrett,
employed by the Pennsylvania
Office of Employment Security, who
resides with his wife and daughter,
Judie, in Dallas.
Recently Boy Scout Troop 530 of
Beaumont visited the Luzerne
County Courthouse for a tour with
Janice Yelen, a member of the
Lawyers Auxiliary, as their tour
guide.
The first stop on the tour was
court room No. 1 with Judge Gifford
Cappellini receiving the boys and
asked them to be seated in different
locations of importance in the court
room. Judge Cappellini, pointed out
to the scouts the meaning of these
locations and the operation of the
court and its judicial system. He
then gave them an opportunity to
have a question and answer session.
His visit was very informative.
Second on the agenda was a visit
and demonstration given by Ray
Ostrowski, Deputy Sheriff of Luz-
erne County. With the help of Boy
Scout Jason Darling, the method of
frisking and handcuffing a prisoner
was demonstrated. He also spoke on
the duties of his department.

and the Recorder of Deeds was also
held with the scouts asking ques-
tions and receiving much informa-
tion on the workings of each depart-
ment. Some of the things they
learned was the court house was
built in 1906 and the first deed
recorded i nthe first book was
signed by Ben Franklin and was
written for John Smith 200 years
ago.
After their very informative visit
the troop proceeded to McDonald’s
for their lunch.
Attending this event were scouts
Brad Seward, Scott Wilson, Jason
Darling, Bernie Ryan, Harry
Yatsko, and Carson Gramley and
their chaperones.
Any boy the age of 10% and
completed the 5th grade is invited to
join this newly formed troop. He
also can be 11 years of age. For
information call 639-5747. Their
meetings are on Thursdays at 7
p.m. at the old Beaumont School.
