David Williams’ of Kingston was
the overall winner of the men’s
trophy and Marie Tassi of Wilkes-
Barre took the overall woman’s
trophy in the 10th ‘Annual Senior
Citizens Olympic held at College
Misericordia, Dallas; Saturday. Sev-
eral hundred senior citizens repre-
senting 13 Centers in Luzerne and
Wyoming Counties took part in the
competition which actually started
Friday, with bowling at Chacko’s
West in Luzerne.
Wilkes-Barre Center won the
153 points, followed: by: Kingston,
second and Pittston, third. Winner
of the small center trophy was
Hazle Township with 22 points.
Freeland was second among the
small centers and Plains was third.
College Misericordia faculty
members Geri Wall and Prof.
Thomas O’Neill volounteered their
services for the Olympics, just as
they have since the first competition
was initiated 10 years ago. Students
.also volunteered their services,
working as scorekeepers and guides
for the various events which started
lat 9 a.m., Saturday, on the college
_ campus...

the various events earn points for
their Centers by ‘placing, first,
second or third. First place winners
earned 10 points, second place, eight
and third place, six.
Winners of the bowling competi-
tion, Friday, were males Stanley
Magdan, Wilkes-Barre Center, 1st-
205; Gene Ercolani, Wilkes-Barre
Center, 2nd-204, and Marcel Beitzel,
Freeland Center, 3rd-200; female
winners were Sue Kopaczak,
Wilkes-Barre, 1st-207; Josephine:
Cuper, Wilkes-Barre, 2nd-170; and
Ruth Samley, Wilkes-Barre, 3rd-167.
In the team events, first place was
taken by the men’s team. from
Wilkes-Barre with 773; second place
by the Wyoming County Center’s
team ith 706; and third place by
Nanticoke Center’s team with:705.
All competitive events were div-
ided into two categories, men and
women. Results of these were

ship; 2nd place-Wilkes Barre Town-
ship and 3rd place, Wyoming

The day was perfect for the out-
door event with the sun, blue sky
and a warm breeze contributing to
the perfect setting on the college
campus. Directors of the various
Centers were present to assist their
members in finding the events in
which they registered to participate
but the one individual, who seemed
to-be everywhere at once informing
her members where they should be
was Dallas resident Irene Smith,
director of the Wilkes-Barre Center,
the Center which has won the larg-
est center trophy for 10 consecutive
years.
Congratulations to you, Irene, and
to. your members who were such
fine sports.
A free soccer clinic for players,
ages 6-17, will be held on May 15-16,
6:30 -9 p.m., at College Misericordia
in Dallas.
English coach Steve Bateup, a
qualified member of the British
Football Association, will -conduct
and parents. Participants may
attend either day or both days at
their convenience The on-field dem-
onstrations require players to bring
their own balls.
The clinic is sponsored by North
American Soccer Camps which will
also conduct a soccer day camp,
August 4-9, at College Misericordia.
