| 1 | i A By JOAN KINGSBURY Staff Correspondent WYOMING VALLEY has really been in the news this week with the film “A Winner Never Quits’ about pro-baseball player Pete Grey from Nanticoke and also with the Hano- ver Cheerleaders capturing a world championship. You often hear comments like “Nothing ever happens in Wyoming Valley.” Not so! Wyoming Valley is filled with interesting, determined people who possess much courage and talent. Of course, I think that the bright- est and best live in the Back Moun- tain, but I guess I’m prejudiced. 0 is RECENTLY AT TRINITY NURSERY SCHOOL we were privileged to see two fine pro- grams. Veronica Farinola@ presented a pro- gram with the "&< Puffless Dragon KINGSBURY from the American Cancer Society and our children’s librarian from the Back Mountain Memorial Library, Mrs. Marilyn Rudolph, presented a reading program. Mrs. Farinola, who was the recip- ient of this year’s prestigious Benja- min Rush Award, is a tireless worker for the American Cancer Society. She showed the children a film about a dragon who thought smoking was cool, but found out differently as his health faded. Fol- lowing the film, the children were treated to a visit from the Puffless Dragon who had a coloring book for each child. Mrs. Rudolph, who has introduced countless area children to the enjoy- ment of books and reading, read to the children and showed two lovely film strips. Sometimes, when I am enjoying all the programs we see at the school, I wonder who enjoys them more, the children or me. -0- SPEAKING OF THE LIBRARY, did you know that shirts are availa- ble for adults and children at the library. Congratulations to you! THIS RAINY WEATHER we have been having recently is doing noth- ing to. improve my personality. Each day I go to Nursery School to handle a class of about 12. On sunny days things always go very well because the children can spend a portion of the morning riding bikes, swinging, running around, getting rid of their excess energy (and believe me they have plenty.) Rainy days are another story. Children need a place to run and play. When they are confined to a classroom for the entire morning, just imagine how much energy they bottle up. I must say that all the children look very happy throughout the morning and when it is time to go home. But I often wonder what I mornings! -0- MR. AND MRS. DAVID B.
