DALLAS TOWNSHIP
A Kingston Township police offi-
cer was slightly injured in a two-car
accident early, Monday morning
while driving 2 police car along Rt.
309.
Joseph Bren, 83 Echo Valley
Court, Shavertown, was treated and
released from Nesbitt Memorial
Hospital for moderate head and leg
injuries he received when his vehi-
cle slammed into a car operated by
Scott R. Culver, 100 A Perrin Ave.,
Shavertown, at approximately 6:00
a.m. near Main Street in Dallas
Township.
According to reports, both vehi-
cles were traveling north on Rt. 309
when Culver said his car stalled,
stating that he did put on his 4-way
flashers. Bren said traffic seemed
to be running smoothly when he
noticed the Culver vehicle stopped
in front of him. He then tried to
apply his brakes but rammed into
the rear of Culver’s 1984 Dodge 4-
door sedan.
Bren was taken by the Dallas
Township ambulance to the Nesbitt
where he was treated and released.
Culver was slightly injured, com-
plaining of neck pains and said he
would see his own physician.
KINGSTON TOWNSHIP
Two Dallas women escaped injury
after their cars collided on Rt. 309
near Burger King Monday morning.
Kimberly Jo Jurosky, RD 1, Box
477, Upper Demunds Road, Dallas,
and Mary Crispell, 148 Overbrook
Avenue, Dallas, both received
minor injuries in the mishap but
refused treatment.
According to reports Crispell was
309 when Jurosky, traveling north,
ran the red light and slammed into
Crispell’s 1983 AMC Eagle station
wagon. Kingston Township police
said Jurosky will be cited for the
incident.
Both vehicles had to be towed.

By CHARLOT M. DENMON
Staff Correspondent
Whether in mid-winter or in
the heat of summer, Jim John-
son, owner of Air-Med Industries,
has a new type of business in the
Back Mountain that many resi-
dents may enjoy.
It is Rent-A-Tub — not the use
of a bathtub but a hot tub. No
doubt many Back Mountain resi-
dents have heard of the hot tubs,
quite popular in the New Eng-
land States and other parts of the
country, but, in most cases, they
are sold and installed perma-
nently either indoors or out-of-
doors.
Rent-A-Tub is a more recent
enterprise and an idea Jim John-
son got from New Jersey where
a company did the same thing.
According to Johnson, hot tubs
are considered ‘“‘spas’”’ and come
in all shapes, sizes and colors.
Generally, they are a large tub
filled with hot water at a temper-
ature of 104 degrees, with high
pressure water jets which can be
controlled, installed around the
inside.
The hot tubs are currently in
use all of the large motels and
hotels across the country and
may be used inside or outside. In
many cases, they are prescribed
for the individual with circula-
tory or orthopedic problems.
Johnson has one installed in an
enclosed porch of his home
where it can be used all winter.
He doesn’t sell the tubs, but rents
them for any length of time a -
customer might want one. The
tubs are made of fiberglass,
enclosed in redwood. Each tub is
sterilized with alcohol and beta-
dyne after being rented and
returned by a customer.
Johnson said his company’s
major goal is to give an individ-
ual the opportunity to try the hot
tub before making the invest

ment in one which is costly. He
sets them up and takes them
down.
Originally from New Jersey,
Johnson came to the Back Moun-
tain area about five years ago
when he accepted a position in
the Emergency Medical Services
Field. He is the director of the
Emergency Medical Service Pro-
gram at Luzerne County Commu-
nity College and is also employed
as a para-medic at Nesbitt
Memorial Hospital.
As mentioned above, Johnson
owns Air-Med Industries, an air
ambulance

rleaxes while he.
transports persons by air to hos-
pitals anywhere in the country as
recommended by physicians to
their patients. The company has
three Lear jets at its disposal.
Johnson is also a member of the
Back Mountain Paramedic Unit
and the West Side Mobile Inten-
sive Care Unit.
His work and his business
keeps him going almost around
the clock. ‘Life is never boring,”
he said.
For persons interested in the
hot tub, call Johnson at 675-3696.
He will be happy to provide
callers with detailed information.
