Spring’s here! That means Cherry
Blossom time’s not far behind with
all the great things to do in Wilkes-
Barre. It also means that it is time
for ‘the Girl Scout Flea Market at
the Coal Street ICE-A-RAMA. This
will be the fourth year that Girl
Scouts and their supporters fill the
skating rink with all kinds of trea-
sures to help pay for the program
Penn’s Woods Council - offers the
girls and women throughout the six
counties covered by the Council.
More than 3,000 Girl Scouts and
Leaders contribute to the items
offered for sale. Twenty-eight troops
will set -up their own booths. A
committee from the Board of Direc-
tors, chaired by Mrs. Mary Lou
Swingle, Shavertown, is coordinat-
ing the event and gathering
antiques and items of greater value
for the Auction.
Six handmade afghans, a stereo,
an Oleg Cassini digital man’s
watch, an autographed copy of the
fight program from the Las Vegas
fight when Larry Holmes defeated
Mohammed Ali and became, World
Champion signed by Larry Holmes,
a set of presidential cuff links
donated by President Gerald Ford,
and a Thomas electric organ with
two keyboards, and one octave of
foot pedals, are among the unique
items that have come in for the
Auction to date.
