Program held Dallas Post/Ed Campbell MICHAEL FARRIS THE FIRST GRADERS observed National Library Week by making a trip to the Back Mountain Memorial Library. The librarian gave them a tour of the facility and entertained them by reading two short stories to them. They enjoyed their first visit to the library as a group. 0- RECENTLY, Sister Elizabeth’s second graders have been busy making magazines according to the program in “Cover to Cover.” Each student made one issue of a maga- zine, including short stories, biogra- phies, poems, sports trivia ques- tions, fashion and beauty guides, pictures, jokes, puzzles and games. The children were obviously very proud of their finished product as they read and showed -the magazine to the class. -0- LAST WEEK the students in fourth grade attended a Sergeant Seymour Safety Puppet Show. The purpose of the show was to teach the children safety habits for the care of their eyes; how to watch TV safely; how to avoid eye injury from dangerous toys and how to care for their glasses. Afterward, the children tok an Eye Safety Pledge to ensure that they would take good care of their eyes. SECOND GRADERS getting ready for First Communion are making banners inscribed with appropriate slogans, which they will hang on their church pew when their day comes. -0- MRS. Joe’s future plans Host families are sought The American Scandinavian Stu- dent Exchange (ASSE Interna- tional) is seeking host families in the local area for high school-aged exchange students. The 8 boys and girls come from Scandinavia, Ger- many, Holland, Switzerland, Great Britain, France and Spain. All the students 16 to 18 years old, are fluent in English and are carefully screened and selected for the ASSE program based on their high school performance and good character. Each student is looking forward to spending a year in the U.S. attend- ing a local high school and living as a member of an American family. The qualified students have a great variety of talents and inter- ests. Oliver, applying from Ger- many, likes soccer, tennis, skiing, jogging, computers and collecting stamps. He looks forward to his stay in the U.S. and says, ‘I think this will help me in the future to understand better the problems of Foreign Nations and give me a view of the world outside the ‘Old Conti- nent’ ”’. Marta, applying from Ice- land, likes skiing, dancing, music, reading and sports.
