AT TRINITY NURSERY
SCHOOL, we emphasize all impor-
tant dates, such as President’s Day.
We talked about George Washing-
ton, father of our country, and
Abraham Lincoln, 16th president.
The children learned to recognize
them and pretty much were able to
tell me something about them. The
most interesting responses to my
questions were ‘‘George Washington
is' president of the month” and
“They’re both on money.”
The comment about money
amazed me. It never occurred to
me that a three year old would have
any idea whose picture appeared o
nthe one and five dollar bills.

I WAS DELIGHTED TO LEARN
that the beautiful carousel that was
featured at Hanson’s Park for many
years will be used in the proposed
Scranton theme park.
Owned by Mrs. Mary Ann Win-
tersteen of Harveys Lake, the car-
ousel features an authentic Wur-
litzer 150 band organ. The
Wintersteen family operated the
carousel from 1909 until 1984 when
Hanson’s Park closed.
675-0835
Anyone who grew up in our area
must have fond memories of this
grand old carousel. It was always
my favorite ride (not being much of
a daredevil) and it really bothered
me when the park closed and the
carousel was put to rest.

IF YOU ARE A BIRD
WATCHER, winter is a wonderful
time to enjoy these pretty crea-
tures. A bird feeder can provide a
person with hours of enjoyment
watching the antics of our feathered
friends.
Quite by accident I came across
two books about a starling named
Arnie that makes very entertaining
reading: ‘‘Arnie, The Darling Star-
ling” and the second book ‘‘Arnie
and A House Full of Company.” The
author, Margarete Sigl Corbo is one
of those rare people who can get
wild birds to come to her. Mrs.
Corbo rescued Arnie when he was a
baby and from then on it as loads of
fun, with Arnie learning to talk as
well as any parrot.
