With Jean Hillard
GIRL SCOUT COOKIES are on
the way, well orders are taken
anyhow. Jennie Wartella stopped by
the house and my husband told her I
wasn’t home, but I was, I had just
come in the back door from exer-
cise classes, starved and we have
Six boxes coming!
Hurry up spring and hurry up Girl
Scout cookies. Jennie was wearing a
smile as usual, but this smile was
from her broken arm this week. She
broke her arm skiing.
Jennie is the
daughter of Jack
and Genie War-
tella and skiing is
a family sport in
their house.
Jennie said “I
can’t wait to get
this cast off so I
can go skiing
love it.

SPEAKING OF LOVE, it was
written all over the face of Mrs.
Carolla Herring of Sweet Valley.
Mrs. Herring purchased some hand-
cream from me and proudly said,
“I’ll take the pennies because I save
them for my granddaughter.”
- She was speaking of her change
and also of her 15-year-old grand-
daughter. She said, ‘I waited 70
years for my grandchild, she’s very
special.” So is Mrs. Herring very
special to many people. Her talents
at the piano have been passed on to
hundreds of students over the years
and now at the age of 85 she will
still teach or give a “tune” that no
one else will attempt. Piano lessons
or grandchild, her heart is in what
she does.

MRS. WINTERS, former owner of
the Dallas Motel is probably bask-
ing in the sun by now. All her eye
shadows intact, her cosmetics in
good shape for a long time, she has
left Dallas, bag and baggage, to
make her home permanently in
Florida. She said, ‘I was a Dallas
girl for 21 years and I loved it here
but I can’t take these winters.” The
Back Mountain wishes her well in
her move, we always hate to see
someone leave our area but our best
wishes go with them.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY WISHES go
to Mrs. Marguerite Dubil of
Lehman and her daughter, Debbie
Evans of Wyoming. Both ladies
celebrated last week and special
belated wishes go to them from
another daughter, Bonnie Konigus
of Hunlock Creek.
The whole family was celebrating
one occasion or another for about 10
days in a row. Once the birthdays
were over, Bonnie and Joe Konigus
were celebrating their 18th wedding
anniversary. Bonnie is an instructor
at Great Beginnings Fitness Center
and keeps us all in shape, while
daughter Carrie is taking dance
classes and enjoying cheerleaders
for the Lake-Lehman High School
where she is in the Sr. class. Their
son J.J. Konigus has made my
column many times with wrestling
wins and youngest son Michael is
always there to support them all.
Happy Anniversary Bonnie and Joe!

SPEAKING OF GREAT BEGIN-
NINGS, I thought the whole ‘“‘Stap-
inski staff’ had gone in a fitness
frenzy Saturday morning. Two more
employees joined the class to firm
up their bodies. Jacquie Hellman
and Betty Sorchick both popped in
ready to “get in shape.” It ended up
with the three of us and Bonnie
sprawled all over the floor, just
chatting, of course!

THERE ARE SO MANY AREA
RESIDENTS suffering from ‘a flu
and a light-headed feeling, while
others are running temperatures
and lots of sore throats. Michelle
Miller, daughter of Ken and Nancy
Miller, Demunds Road, had a more
severe case of strep throat. A get
well wish goes out to all of you. A
very special get well wish this week
goes to a dear lady in Sweet Valley,
Mrs. Clair Cragle who is recuperat-
ing at the home of her daughter,
Joan Culver. Mrs. Cragle has been

LUSCIOUS LIPS
Mouths are very sexy. You don’t want
it garish, and you don't want it gooky
with oily-looking color.
HERE'S HOW TO MAKE A LUSCIOUS MOUTH
* Apply your foundation base over the
mouth area to even out lip pigments.
* Apply a very light dusting of powder to
set color. (To much powder will cause
the color to cake).
* Line your mouth with liplining pencil
near the shade of your lipstick.
* With a lip brush paint the inside of the
line you just put on and blend together
carefully.
* Let the color set, then blot and apply a
second coat of color.
* Creme color lipstick stays on longer
than frost.

CIRCLE THIS DATE — March 15
— on your calendar. The Luzerne
County Federation of Women’s
Clubs is preparing for the annual
Federation Day to be held at
Boscov’s in Wilkes-Barre.
Several Back Mountain ladies are
actively involved in this day, Mrs.
Robert Rowlands and Mrs. Elly
Horvath, both Dallas residents will
be on the program committee. All
proceeds of the day will be ear-
marked for the benefit of the Ameri-
day will also go toward the fund.
The hope for this year is to
establish a computerized reference
library at Osterhout Library in
Wilkes-Barre and if enough monies
are realized, we’d like to see one in
the Back Mountain Memorial
Library also. It is not impossible,
it’s quite possible really. So, if you
can shop Boscov’s on March 15 and
you can be a special help in bring-
ing a reference library to the Back
Mountain Memorial Library by way
of computers!

AN ARMED ROBBERY in
Dallas, gee it’s getting more like the
big city each day. The site of the
armed robbery was almost the
same site of the hit and run death of
a 16-year old boy only a few weeks
ago. Our safe town is growing and
so are the problems. The Back
Mountain Auto Sales was robbed at
gunpoint last Thursday evening
around 6:30 and $550 in cash taken.
The robber fled on foot.

YET ANOTHER TRAGEDY
STRIKES the community as a 19
year old boy loses his life, the result
of a shotgun blast. Henry C. Tuck
IV, a graduate of Dallas High
School this past June was fatally
shot, details still sketchy but the
fact is another teenager is dead
from the Back Mountain. Last
Friday morning’s news will linger
on forever in the minds and hearts
of his family and friends. We extend
our heartfelt sympathy to the
family.

ON A BRIGHTER NOTE, last
Friday morning Miss June McClos-
key of New Goss Manor, Dallas,
was discharged from Mercy Hospi-
tal and returned to her home to
recuperate from ankle surgery.
Miss MacCloskey and a friend
started out for an entertaining
Sunday matinee and she slipped and
her ankle very badly. Corrective
surgery and excellent care at Mercy
Hospital has her back home sooner
than she expected.

FRIDAY WAS ALSO A DAY OF
FUN for a group of Senior Citizens,
several of them Back Mountain
residents who went by bus to Atlan-
tic City for the day. Mary Ann
Lilley and Kay Gilford both of
Dallas, were two of the Dallas
residents who took advantage of a
fun trip. Hope you came home .
“richer” than you left!

IF YOU WERE ROOTING for the
Chicago Bears yur Super Bowl.
Sunday was perfect! What a game,
the only great part in my eyes was
the first fumble, the first three
points. I wasn’t rooting for the
Chicago Bears!
