Knights Joe Smith taking the second win over 132-1b.
Dan Vesek: 105-1b. Jeff Austin won a technical in 3:58
over the Mohawks Kevin Murry. Austin was leading
15-0.
Key bouts for the Knights were 119-lb. Dave
Guzenski’s 5-5 draw with district champ Steve Tredin-
nick, Don Spencer’s major decision over 155-1b. Chris
Balough and the three point decisions by 185-1b. Scott
Shafer and Hwt. Ed Stratford to give the Knights their
27-20 victory.
CLOSE BOUT AT 98
In a close bout at 98, Knight Matt Reinert and
Mohawk Steve Price wrestled to a 0-0 score in the first
period and Reinert scored the first point when he
escaped in the second period. Price scored two points
on a takedown late in the bout and held on to win 2-1.
105-1b. Austin gave the lead to the Knights 6-3 when
he scored the technical over Kevin Murray but 112-1b.
Mohawk Tim Casey moved his team in the lead 9-6 by
clamping Terry Smith in 3:39. The team score moved
to 11-8 when 119-1b. Knight Dave Guzenski. and
Mohawk Tredinnick wrestled to a 5-5 draw.
Guzenski’s draw was a mild upset over Tredinnick
who was considered a sure win but the Knight trailing
4-3 going into the final seconds of the third period let
Tredinnick escape for a point, then scored two for
himself by taking the Mohawk down, to end the bout in
the draw.
126-1b. Chris Frederick wrestled to a close 4-2 bout
over Meyers Ray Irvin to tie the team score at 11-11.
132-Ib. Joe Smith gave his Knights a 17-11 lead by
flattening Dan Vesek in 3:26 for the final pin in the
meet.
Mohawk 138-lb. Bob McFadden, a district champ,
took a 4-1 bout from Bob Guzenski to move the team
score to within three points of the Knights and 145-lb.
Sean Foley tied it at 17 by taking an 8-4 decision from
Knight Mark Yaple.
TURNING POINT
Lake-Lehman’s 155-1b. Don Spencer was the turning
point in the Knights win by taking a major 9-1 decision
for Chris Balough to give his team a 21-17 lead.
The Meyers fans roared when 167-Ib. Bob Thomas
moved the Mohawks to within only one point by
defeating big Bill George 8-2, giving the Mohawks the
chance to win. :
Their hopes were soon dampened when 185-1b. Scott
Shafer gave the Knights a 24-20 lead and Hwt. Ed
Stratford used a reversal, escape and a takedown to
0, giving the Knights the 27-20 win.
DALLAS LESS FORTUNATE
On the other side of the Back Mountain, Dallas High
School grapplers were less fortunate than their neigh-
boring Knights, losing 45-22 to Lake-Lehman at the
Dallas gym, Saturday and bowing to Crestwood 49-15,
Wednesday, at Dallas.
The Mountaineers team points were scored by 105-
Ib. Brian Mathers, who flattened Mark Rogowski in
2:57, 126-1b. Bill Janosky who clamped Chris Frederick
in 5:53, 145-lb. Gene Faulls who took a 13-4 major
decision from Mark Yaple and 185-Ib. Mark Chester,
who gave the Mountaineers six points by a Knight
forfeit.
CRESTWOOD WINS
In their meet with the Crestwood Comets, Wednes-
day, at Dallas, the Mountaineers were defeated 49-15.
Dallas mat coach Larry Schuler explained that
several of his key men are out of the lineup with
illness or key injuries. The Comets took advantage of
the situation to win with four pins, a default by injured
Mike Richards and a technical fall by Mark Wychock
over Brian Maseychik with the Comet leading 18-5.
The Mountaineers were in the lead 11-3 at the end of
the first three bouts. After 98-1b. Jim O’Donnell lost a
12-6 bout to Comet Alan Hosage, 105-1b. Brian Mathers
garnered six points for Dallas with a technical fall
over Rob Aideldinger, whom he was leading 15-0, in
4:52 and 112-lb. Paul Burke took a superior 18-5
decision from Comet Pat Rother.
Comet Darren Testa started a winning string for the
Comets by clamping 119-1b. Eric Olsen in 5:29. 126-1b.
Dave Hill followed with a 3:23 pin over Scott Drasnin
and 132-1b. Fran Aigeldinger won by default over Mike
Richards, who injured his left shoulder. Richards was
leading 4-1 when had to stop wrestling. 138-Ib. Mark
Wychock gave the Comets a 27-11 lead when he won by
a technical fall, leading 18-5, over Brian Maseychik in
4:10.
FAULLS WINS DECISION
Dallas score moved to 15 when 145-1b. Gene Faulls
took a 12-2 major decision from Brian Ross. They were
the final points for the Mountaineers as 155-1b. Comet
Dave Adamezyk took a major 13-4 decision from Dave
Cooper, 167-1b. Chris Cole upended Dale Williams in
1:39, 185-1b. Chad Yordy won by a forfeit and Hwt. Don
Pry pinned Tom Charney in 1:08.
The Mountaineers meet Hanover, away, tonight,
Son. 29, then host Tunkhannock at home, Saturday,
Feb. 1.
The Lake-Lehman Knights meet Bishop Hoban,
away, Jan. 29, host Berwick at home, Jan. 31, and
West Side Tech, at home, Feb. 1.
Jack Berti’s 4-7-9 split conversion
combined with 512 series inspired
points from the Firebirds in the
Idetown Compact League. L. Lan-
ning tumbled pins for 198 to aid in
the win. Pintos managed three
points from the Corvettes Jerry
Roan’s big 568. D. Doty walloped
the pins for a big 582 and his wife,
Connie rolled 170 to lead the Came-
ros in shutting out the LeBarons.
Lady Fortune continued to smile
on Fashion Vending girls as they
shut out Castlettes in the Ladies
Country League paced by L.
Cyphers and her 182. A. Hospodar
hit the pins for 182 for the losing
five. Three teams are tied for
second-Grotto Pizza who picked up
three points from Gordon Insurance
despite Gordon’s J. Lamoreaux
posting 186 (476) and R. Gula rolling
191; G.H. Harris and Bonomo Sports
Center, who divided evenly. R. Car-
Harris and K. Scavone rolled 175 for
Bonomo’s.
In the Bowlerette League N.
Moser knocked down pins for 200
(492) to lead Hoagie Bar team to
three points from Brent Long and
Franklin’s copped three points from
Tom Reese five.
G.H. Harris shut out Back Mt. Inn
No. 2, Brown’s Oil took all from the
Bermudas and Back ‘Mountain Inn
No. 1 shut out Back Mt. Sporting
Goods in Bonomo’s Major League.
Hambos took three from K Boom
and Sweet Valley Outfitters earned
three from Monk Plumbing. Hitting
high scores for Harris were D.
Purvin 570, A. Wendel 570 and T.
Doughton 225 (537). R. Clemow
rolled 234 (581) for Inn No. 2 and J.
Roan hit 217 (593) and R. Bonomo
216 (564) for the oil men. S. Vigorito
toppled wood for 548 for Inn No. 1
and F. Adams 224 (551) was high for
the Hambos. The Outfitters put up
four good series with Glen Mazer’s«
541, Gary Mazer’s 537, B. Varner’s
536 and F. Ranelli’s 531.
Three teams moved into a tie for
the lead in the Imperialette League,
Schmid’s Amoco, Mahaffey Oil and
Humphrey’s Apparel. Schmid’s and
Mahaffey split 2-2, Humphrey’s took
three from Lombardo Bakery while
Scavone Motors continued to move
up by picking up three from Jean
Shop. K. Scavone hit the pins for 194
(519) and teammate H. Dickinson
rolled 196 (477). M. Neifert
slammed pins for 215 (535) and J.
Wertman bowled 173.
High scores were few in Our Gang
League with E. Dingle hitting 541,
V. Hudak 520, D. Springer 174 (494)
and’ M. McAndrew 179. Winning
were Farinas shutting out Chubbies,
Butch blanking Alfalfa, Spanky
taking all from Porky and Worms
picking up three from Buckwheat.
No reports were turned in by the
Church League. Sorry guys!
The Cougars of College Misericor-
dia were edged 86-82 by the men of
Beaver College despite Cougar Pat
Kingland’s high 32 points. Tony
Wilson followed Kingland with 18
points and J. Wright added 10 but it
wasn’t enough as the Beavers used
a balanced scoring attack and
outshot the Cougars at the foul line
by two points. !

lead over the Lady Cougars of
Misericordia at half time, then
paced by Gibbs’ 41 points went on to
defeat the Cougars 74-51 on
Cabrini’s court.
Kim Stetzar led the Lady Cougars
with 16 points and Terri Middleton
scored 12 points.
