CHAPTER 9 DISABLED AMERI-
CAN VETERANS will meet on
Monday, Jan. 6, at 7:30 p.m. at the
Parsons VFW, Scott St., Wilkes-
Barre. :
Installation of officers will be
held. Mr. Alfred Fabie is in charge
of the membership drive and may
be contacted at 824-9346. Refresh-
ments will be served. All members
are urged to attend.

THE EIGHTH ANNUAL WILKES
COLLEGE LETTERWOMEN’S
BASKETBALL TOURNEY will be
held on Friday, Jan. 3 and Satur-
day, Jan. 4, at the Wilkes College
Gymnasium.
Teams participating in this year’s
events include Jersey City State
College, Jersey City, N.J.; Nazareth
College, Rochester, N.Y.; Western
Maryland College, Westminster,
MD; and the host Wilkes College
Lady Colonels.
Semi-final action gets underway
on Friday at 6:30 p.m. when Naza-
reth College, last year’s tournament
champions, takes on Jersey City
State College. Nazareth enjoyed a
fine season last year including a
ECAC Division III Northern Divi-
sion Championship.
In the night cap, the Lady Colo-
nels of Wilkes College return to
action following a 24 day lay-off as
Scout Pack 281 of Dallas held its
Christmas meeting recently. The
opening ceremony ws led by the
Webelos. All the scouts were
involved in a story called, ‘‘Santa’s
Noisy Christmas.” All dens
presented a custom of Christmas.
The Tigers presented the manger.
Dens 1 and 2 shared the Wassail
Bowl with everyone. Santa arrived
with presents in tow.
Prizes from the Pack’s fund
raiser were presented. David Hold-
redge was top seller.
The following awards were given:
Brad Kozich, bear badge, 1 silver
arrow and 1 gold arrow; Nelson
Downend, bear badge, 1 silver
arrow and 1 gold arrow; Jamie
Bottoms, 3 silver arrows; Mark
Cypher, wolf badge, 2 silver arrows
and 1 gold arrow; David Townsend,
5 silver arrows and 1. gold arrow;
Carl Wiedlich, 1 gold arrow; Nick
Sabatini, wolf badge; Chris Brown,
artist and showman; David Hold-
redge, citizen; Chris Thomas, show-
man.
After the program concluded all
Scouts and children present were
surprised to find their shoes filled
Dallas Post/Ed Campbell they tangle with Western Maryland
College at 8:15 p.m.
The two winners will meet for the
tournament championship on Satur-
day at 3 p.m. Consolation game is
scheduled for 1 p.m.

Baseball group
The first meeting of Back Moun-
tain Baseball, Inc. will be held on
Monday, January 6, at 8 p.m. at the
Dallas American Legion.
All managers, coaches, volunteers
and interested parents of Little
League, girls’ softball and teeners
are asked to be in attendance as
plans for the upcoming year will be
made.

RICH REININGER will be the
guest speaker on Laity Sunday,
January 5, at the Huntsville Chris-
tian Church. His topic will be “The
Gifts of Giving” and is sponsored by
Circle 1 of the Church.
Reininger is a graduate of Prince-
ton University and is employed by
Proctor and Gamble as a chemical
engineer. He is an elder at the
Huntsville Christian Church as well
as a member of the Outreach Action
Committee. He is involved with the
Special Olympics of Luzerne County
and is an alumni admissions ambas-
sador for Princeton. Reininger
resides with his wife, Jean, in Shav-
ertown.
The 9:30 a.m. service is open to
the public and will be followed by
calling the Church at 675-0611.

LEADERSHIP WILKES-BARRE
is sponsoring a planning meeting for
a spring environmental fair and
community clean-up day at 7 p.m.
on January 8. The meeting will be
held at the Conference Room of the
Family Practice Center, 540 Pierce
St., Kingston.
All interested groups and individ-
uals are invited to attend. For
