Be careful
when driving
It’s that time of year when biting
cold and whirlingwind preoccupy
travelers and make driving hazard-
ous. The Pennsylvania Optometric
Association (POA) says that motor-
ists who use a visually-oriented
approach to safe driving can actu-
ally help prevent winter accidents.
To be a visually-oriented safe
driver, the POA advises the follow-
ing:
-Give yourself access to the total
visual field by having windows clear
of snow, ice and fog. Auto air
conditioners will clear car windows
of inside moisture within a few
minutes even in winter.
-Help others to see you, particu-
larly at dusk by turning on head-
lights and keeping them clean. The
contrast between sky brightness and
road darkness at dusk makes seeing
difficult resulting in 6 p.m. being
the most common time for fatal
accidents.

Driving Safety” write the Pennsyl-
vania Optometric Association, P.O.
