Bill introduced
! The state lottery’s use of foreign-
made hand calculators and coffee
mugs as prizes has prompted the
prime sponsor of legislation requir-
ing the use of domestic products to
step up his lobbying efforts for
passage of the bill.
! State Rep. Stanley J. Jarolin, D-
Luzerne, said he introduced the
measure (H.B. 775) last spring, but
it has been stalled in the House
State Government Committee.
“I intend to work House Bill 775
out of committee and out to the full
House for a vote as soon as possi-
ble,” added Jarolin. ‘I want it to be
against the law for any state agency
to use any foreign products, period.
If it can’t be gotten in Pennsylvania
or the United States, it shouldn’t be
* gotten at all.”

Wilkes-Barre General Hospital
has been awarded a three-year Cer-
tificate of Accreditation by the Joint
Commission on Accreditation of
Hospitals (JCAH). The accredita-
tion is evidence of General's efforts
to provide quality health care to
residents of Wyoming Valley and
Luzerne County.
Benefits of accreditation include
the formal certification of hospital
programs, facilities and patient
care services by a nationally recog-
nized review organization. Such
endorsement helps hospitals qualify
for professional programs, reim-
bursements, licensure requirements
and other certification for pro-
grams, staff and services.
JCAH accreditation is a voluntary
process that allows facilities to
demonstrate their accountability
and commitment to excellence in
the provision of health care serv-
ices. To become accredited, Wilkes-
Barre General Hospital voluntarily
requested an on-site evaluation by
surveyors who applied national
standards of health care delivery.
JCAH is a private, not-for-profit
organization whose surveyors and
board of commissioners are health
care professionals appointed by the
American College of Surgeons,
American College of Physicians,
American Dental Association,
American Hospital Association and
American Medical Association.
