The Dallas High School marching
Bang has had a year full of competi-
ion.
Among that competition is a first
place among five Grop II bands in
Nanticoke where the Marching
Mountaineers won Specialty Awards
in music, marching and percussion.
The band also won first place
among six Group II bands in the
Arthritis Foundation Band Competi-
tion held in Wilkes-Barre. There,
they received specialty awards for
music and band front while soloist
Mark Steinkirchner was also cited.
In Redland (Harrisburg), the
locals won first place among four
Group II bands with specialty
awards for percussion, band front,
general effects, and drum major
(Kiersten Fries.) They also won the
overall trophy for the highest score
of all participating bands, marking
taineers received an overall trophy.
Competing at Lake-Lehman High
School, the Dallas Band won first
place among four Group II bands
with a score of 76.4 and picked up
specialty awards for music, march-
ing and band front. At Wyoming
Area, the Dallas band won first
place among three Group II bands
while picking up the overall trophy
and specialty awards for music,
the first time the Marching Moun- marching and band front.

In the Chapter VII Champion-
ships, the Mountaineers won first
place among six bands with spe-
cialty awards in marching, music
and drum major while they placed
sixth among 24 bands in the Atlantic
Coast Championships. Here, the
Dallas students picked up an 85.65,
their highest score ever.
