Professionals speak
Three professionals in the field of biomedical equipment technology, all graduates of Penn State
i Wilkes-Barre, came back to the campus recently, to speak at one of a series of career
exploration programs. The workshops are sponsored by the Center for Individual Development at
the campus in Lehman, and are open to students and residents of this area without charge.

in education, business, telecommunications, math, science and health administration.
Christmas project
More than 60 students at Wyoming Seminary College Preparatory School, Kingston, are
participating in the sixth annual Christmas Wrap project to benefit the American Cancer Society.
Wyoming Seminary students have participated in this project since 1982 and have raised over
$11,000 that has been used by the Wyoming Valley Unit of the American Cancer Society.
Interested persons can purchase the wrapping paper for $3 per roll until December 17, from any
participating student or by contacting the Dean of Students office at Wyoming Seminary.

The Census Bureau has begun
collecting data here on changes in
buying habits, according to LaVerne
Collins, director of the Census
Bureau’s Philadelphia regional
office.
The Census Bureau will be con-
ducting the Consumer Expenditure
Surveys in this area each month for
the Bureau of Labor Statistics to
update its “market basket” of goods
and services, used in the Consumer
Price Index. This index measures
changes in the purchasing power of
the dollar over a month, a year or
several years.
Households are asked to partici-
pate in either the Consumer
Expenditure Quarterly Interview or
the Diary Survey. Those participat-
ing in the Quarterly Interview
Survey are asked to furnish data on
