THE WILKES COLLEGE DIVI-
SION OF GRADUATE STUDIES
and Continuing Education will offer
a one-day course entitled, ‘“Intrave-
nous Therapy’ on Thursday, Oct.
17, from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. in
Stark Learning Center, Room 316.
The three-hour session will be
conducted by Linda Desmond, Asso-
ciate Professor, Wilkes College
Nursing Department. Desmond is a
representative for Nurse Associates.
“Intravenous Therapy’’ will
review general principles of IV ther-
apy, anatomy: of veins, and compli-
cations which may occur in IV
techniques. The course also features
a practice period, during which
participants will learn to insert a
catheter into the peripheral venous
circulation.

THE AUTHOR OF THE BOOK
“A Difference In the Family: Life
With A Disabled Child” will be the
guest speaker at a program to be
presented by the Children’s Depart-
ment of the Osterhout Free Library
at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 17 at the
Library, 71 South Franklin Street,
Wilkes-Barre.
~ Mrs. Featherstone will speak
about her book and her as well as
other parents’ experiences in living
with a disabled child. She is pres-
ently the editor of “The Harvard
Education Newsletter’ and an
Assistant Professor of Education at
Wellesley College, Cambridge,
Mass. In her book, the author tells
of the fears, the realizations, the
misconceptions, the challenge and
the love involved in being the parent
of a handicapped child. Her writing
strives to bring together families
~ with “normal” and families with
“different” children.
~The program is open to the gen-
eral public, parents, agency repre-
sentatives, teachers and other indi-

strange and wonderful movies in the
Bierly Auditorium of the’ science
building on the campus in
Lehman...movies that thus far this
semester have explored atoms,
lasers, plastics and planets. This
week, viewers watched ‘“The Starry
Messenger,” (the influence of
astronomy on society.
On Wednesday, Oct. 16, viewers
will be treated to an expose of
man’s beginnings entitled ‘‘The
Chemical Origins of Life.”
Students, faculty, friends, neigh-
bors, anyone who is interested may
attend free of charge, according to
Dr. Dudley Snyder, chemistry pro-
fessor at Penn State Wilkes-Barre,
who said there are no tickets; no
reservations, no questions or
quizzes, just an elegant selection of
films picked from the Pennsylvania
State University collection.

Foundation Funding’ will be held at
Convention Hall, Pittston Township,
on Oct. 31. The seminar is a follow-
