Dallas High School soccer team
picked up three wins last week to
continue undefeated in Wyoming
Valley Conference play. The Moun-
taineers nipped Abington Heights 1-
0 Friday afternoon to give them a
two-game lead over the Comets.
Jim Lister led Dallas in scoring
Thursday afternoon to play a big
role in their 5-1 win over Bishop
O’Reilly and prior to that the Moun-
taineers defeated Bishop Hafey 4-2
at Hazleton.
John Tinner took a rebound of
Matt Lipo and converted it into a
goal three minutes into the second
period to give the Mountainers what
turned out to be the winning shot.
Lipo’s chip shot had a lot of spin
on it and when goalkeeper Taloroi
went to catch it, it rolled off his arm
toward Tinner who knocked it in.
Coach John McCafferty com-
mended Dallas goalie Gerry Mihal-
ick for a great save he made on a
shot by Abington’s Hokan Ojert. He
was very pleased with the Mountai-
neers win but said the Comet are
excellent players and Dallas has to
play them again this Thursday.
“We will have to make a lot of
changes and adjustments for the
upcoming game, more than we
made in last week’s game,” said
Coach McCafferty.
Abington had four corner shots,
Dallas had three. The Comets had
13 shots at goal, Mountaineers had
seven. Mihalick played a tremen-
dous game having 10 saves and the
Comets Taleroi had five.
LISTER SCORES TWO
In their game with O’Reilly,
for Dallas, both in the second half
and both unassisted. Wally Gauthier
scored the first goal for Dallas in
the second quarter with an assist by
Mike Richards, 18;30 into the
period.
* Leading 1-0 going into the second
half, Lister put the score at 2-0
scoring his first shot 7:10 into the
third period. Brent Snowdon gave
the Mounts another score by knock-
ing one in with 3:50 remaining in
the period. Lister scored his second
goal at 14:45 into the fourth period
and John Tinner scored the final
goal for Dallas at 10:40 of the final
quarter.
KNIGHTS SCORE EARLY
The Lake-Lehman Knights took
an early 1-0 lead in Friday’s match
with Benton when Aaron Dennis, on
an assist by Oyvind Undheim scored
a goal just 8:00 minutes into the
first period, then Undheim added a
second goal with an assist by Bran-
don Dennis, to give the Knights a 2-1
lead at the end of the first period.
Benton’s Strauch, unassisted,
scored a goal in the first period for
his team. In the second period,
Hittle, with an assist from Shaffer,
tied it up at 2-2.
Undheim scored unassisted 3:00
into the third period to give the
Knights a 3-2 lead but the strong
Benton team came back to score
two goals in the third period and
by Strauch, scored at 4:00 of the
third period and Diltz scored on a
penalty kick at 16:00 into the third
period.
U-10 DIVISION

Division. For the first game the
Rowdies marched through the
Comets 7-1. Scoring for the Rowdies
were Brad Barket (2), Eddie
Thomas (2), Ben Brown, Justin
Lockheim and Mark Herstek. Great
defensive action was produced by
Lynn Turner and Justin Lockheim.

In the second game, the Cosmos
were victorious over th Chargers 5-
1, with most of the action takaing
and Sean Callahan made two goals
each for the Cosmos while their
teammate Danny Moses kicked one
in the fourth quarter. The Charger’s
Mark Morris made that team’s
goal. Great goalie defensive play by
Gary Farber kept their opponents to
a low total.
Tough defensive play was the
order of the day in the third evenly-
matched game between the Strikers
and the Express. Each team was
held to one goal in this tied game,
while the players ran from one end
of the field to the other as great
offejnsive dribbling downfield was
repulsed by great defensive protec-
tion of the goals. Keith Garcia
scored for the Strikers and Danny
Lukasavage for the Express.
In the final contest the Wings
defeated the Kicks 4-2. Robert Kane
scored twice for the Kicks. On
behalf of the Wings, Adam Hoover
and Danny Natitus each scored and
Richard Butcofski, who has been an
outstanding goal maker all season
scored twice.
One of the outstanding statistics
of the day was the record of Will
Woronko of the Stallions. While
scoring three goals yesterday for
his team, Woronko brought his total
to 49 goals for the season, truly a
remarkable feat. Other Stallion
goals were kicked by Ryan Matol-
ski, Bryon Gainey and Michael Vig-
lone. They defeated the Fury 6 to 1.
