THE WILKES-BARRE
REGIONAL OFFICE of the Depart-
ment of Environmental Resources
(DEr) and the City of Wilkes-Barre
are sponsoring Luzerne County
Recycling Awareness Day on Satur-
day, Oct. 26 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
on Public Square in Wilkes-Barre.
This event will coincide with the
state-wide observance of Recycling
Month in October. DER Secretary
Nicholas DeBenedictis, Wilkes-
Barre Mayor Thomas McLaughlin,
and Luzerne County officials will be
present to participate in the days’
activities.
County residents are being asked
to bring newspapers and beverage
cans to the Square and join in
recycling activities and entertain-
ment events such as recycling dis-
plays, magician Pat Ward, and the
and “Bad Reputation”, provided by
Wilkes-Barre City and DER. In
addition, students in several county
school districts are collecting bever-
age cans in an effort to win individ-
ual and school prizes donated by
local organizations and businesses.
Proceeds from all recycled cans
and newspapers collected as part of
the Luzerne County Recycling
Awareness Day are being donated
to the Ken Pollock Children’s Wing
of the Osterhout Library in Wilkes-
Barre.
THE EVANS FALLS P.T.A. of the
Tunkhannock Area School District
is sponsoring a “Fall Craft Festi-
val’ at the Evans Falls Elementary
School, Route 309, South of Tunk-
hannock, on Saturday, Oct. 26 from
10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
A craft show is an all day feature
of the event. Forty craftsmen will
offer handmade dolls, porcelain,
wood products, hand knits, ceram-
ics, leather goods, cabbage patch
clothes, coal souvenirs, grape vine
wreaths, stenciling, one of a kind
toys, flower arrangements, cosmet-
ics (Mary Kay), tablets, stained
glass, pillows, folk art, pine cone
wreaths and more.
There will also be a bake sale,
book table, white elephant table,
face painting, clown, children’s
movies (such as: Winnie The Pooh
&Tigger Too, Winnie The Pooh
The Blustery Day, Donald Duck’s
Fire Survival Plan &Adventures of
T.J. Thaddeus Toad), and refresh-
ments.
Bring the family! Admission is
free with plenty of parking.

musical “Gypsy” is Let Me Enter-
tain You, and that is exactly what
the show, appearing at The Pocono
Playhouse in Mountainhome, Pa.

Gypsy Rose Lee, the legendary
first lady of burlesque, and her
mother who drove her to fame aré
the subjects of the rousing musical
comedy hit. It’s a song and dance
odyssey of a girl who goes from
tank-town vaudeville to the guady
Minsky burlesque, then on to
become an international celebrity,
and her formidable and tempes-
tuous stage mother.
Reservations should be made
early for both shows. Regular per-
formances at Pocono Playhouse are
Tuesday thru Friday at 8:30 p.m.;
Saturday at 5 p.m. and 9 p.m;
Sunday at 6 p.m.; Wednesday mati-
nees at 2 p.m. Ticket prices range

WILKES-BARRE GENERAL
HOSPITAL'S new ‘Parenting
Class’ will get underway on
Monday, Oct. 7 at 7 p.m. in the
dining room on the hospital's first
floor.
The two-hour class is open to
expectant and first-time parents or
any other parents who might wish
to learn more about the psychologi-
cal or emotional aspects of being a
parent. Physicians from the hospig
tal’s obstetrics and pediatri
departments will discuss topics suca
as preparing for parenthood; home
routines and bedtime problems;
children’s thumb-sucking, crying,
sleeping and bonding; self-quieting
skills; infant development; discip-
line; automobile travel; choosing
babysitters; consistency in parents
spending time alone; when to call a
physician.
Dr. Patricia Rossi, director of
General’s Pediatrics Department,
will serve as instructor for the first
class. Dr. Rossi is also associated
with the Rural Health Corporation
of Northeastern Pennsylvania.
