    U-12 DIVISION
The U-12 Division saw several
close battles as the Wings, Sockers,
and undefeated Chargers all held on
to early leads to pull off their
victories.
In the Wings/Lancers game, the
Wings jumped ahead to a 3-0 lead
when Michael Saneholtz scored two
unassisted goals and Eric Stogoski
connected off a pass from Mark
Finarelli. The Lancers battled back
with goals from Lance Wega and
Shawn Phillips in the last quarter
but couldn’t overcome the Wings’
great defensive teamwork by mid-
fielders Jerry Pollic and Alison
Labbate and goalie Shawn Kelly.
In a similar game, the Sockers
held on to their early 4-0 lead to
defeat the Kicks. Rom Jemio scored
two Sockers’ goals both assisted by
Sean Reynolds. Reynolds scored
once assisted by Alison CAve and
Nick Melone tallied once assisted by
Heidi Weinrich. The. Kicks battled
back in the last quarter when John
Morris, Jason Mattey and Jason
Rogers scored one each. The Sock-
ers got good defensive play from
Eric McDonough and goalie Ronnie
Moses.
The Chargers clinched the
number one spot in the division with
their 5-4 victory over the Aztecs. In
that game, Matt Sleightholm and
David Fisher each scored two to put
the Chargers ahead 4-2 at the half.
Chris Boraski made it 5-2 in the
third quarter but the Aztecs came
on strong in the end to finish the
scoring at 5-4. Rich Wasilius, Eric
Ursiak, Jeremy = Slatzer, and
Michael Schrlau made the Aztecs
goals. A
In other U-12 games, the Express
upset -the undefeated Stallions, 9-4.
Matt Bailey led the Express with
four goals. Ned Palka connected
twice and David Holdredge, Mark
Medura and Tom Hite each hit for
one. David Fosko was outstanding
for the Stallions with three goals.
Todd Paczewski added one for that
team. Sue Stair and John Appel
highlighted the Express defense.
The Comets stunned the Arrows,
4-1. Jason Naugle led the Comets
with two goals. Billy King and Steve
Hedden each scored one. Mike
Wagner penetrated the Comets
defense to socre the only Arrows
goal. Andrea Shone, who debuted as
goalie, John Leonard, and Kevin
Steck all played a super defense for
the Comets.
Steven Rosenthal’s five goals led
the Fury over the Strikers 7-4. Buce
Natitus and Billy Richardson scored
the other Fury goals. David Knapp
put in two for the Strikers while Jeff
Malak and Eric Lehman each added

_U-14 DIVISION
Despite unusually soggy field con-
ditions, halfbacks Judy Roan,
Cheryl Valenta, Jonathan Ross,
Sean Wedemeyer and Mike Mathers
did outstanding jobs. Their hard
work and goals from Jason Figeroa,
Eric Paczewski and Wendy Hoz-
empa led the Furys to a 3-1 victory
over the Cosmos. The Fury victory
was not made easy with Keith
McDonald playing very strong
defense. In the fourth quarter, a
goal from David Grundowski kept
the Cosmos from being zipped by
the Fury. Goalies Eric Paczewski
and Scott Bearley, Furys and
Robert Neyhard, Cosmos did excel-
lent jobs stopping a very slippery
ball.
Chargers center fullback Matt
Shea repeatedly dribbled out of
trouble, keeping the middle of the
field clear helping the Chargers win
over the Comets 2-1.
On an assist from Brian Sickler,
Mike Farris scored the first goal fo
the game.

Knights

football players on this team Satur-
day afternoon,” said Gorgone. “We
came out the second half knowing
George was out and said ‘you
(Hanover) are not going to score on
us,” said Gorgone. ‘“‘Our defense
played very well.”
The Black Knight defense held the
Hawkeyes to an unbelievable minus
28 yards rushing in the first half and
an equally impressive one yard gain
on the ground for the entire game.
The defensive game of the Black
Knights deserves credit not only for
its play, but also for stopping Hano-
ver in very crucial game situations.

In the second quarter of play,
Gorgone’s offensive team fumbled
the ball away three times. The
Hawkeyes recovered the ball on the
Lehman 31, 47 and 18 yard lines. All
three times the Lehman defense
stiffled the Hawkeye offense.
With the Black Knights leading 7-0
late in the fourth quarter, Lehman
again turned the ball over to Hano-
ver when Jeff Martin was in punt
formation and had the punt blocked
giving the Hawkeyes possession at
the Lehman 11 yard line after a 19-
yard return of the block by Tony
George.
The Lehman defense, however,
rose to the occasion and stopped the
scoring threat following two pass
incompletions and an offensive pass
interference call. Lehman then ran
the clock out for the 7 - 0 win.
“It was a good win considering
what happened to George,” said
Gorgone. ‘‘The seniors really
wanted to beat Hanover. I' do not
think Lehman has ever beat Hano-
ver. Our guys really wanted it
Saturday.”
Gorgone said his main concern
now is to decide what his running
game will consist of following
George’s season-ending back injury.

Lake-Lehman’s Lady Knights met
two of the strongest teams in the
conference last week and came
away with a loss against Abington
Heights, the conference leaders but
earlier in the week, the young
Knights paleyd a strong Crestwood
team to a 0-0 tie.
In the game with Abington, the
Knights jumped out to an early lead
on Kelly Wandel’s socre, with an
assist by Deanna Knorr 2:30 into the
game.
The Lady Comets of Abington
were not to be denied and one
minute after Wandel’s score, Jenni-
fer Bond shot one by Slocum to tie
the score. Robyn Bayley put her
team in the lead 2-1 at 10:15 into the
first half on a second score unass-
isted, and ‘at 12:27 into the half she
scored again, unassisted, to give the
Comets a 3-1 lead. Bayley scored
