College Misericordia is offering a variety of courses for children during
the fall semester.

County Community College is offering a break-
fast series for leaders and aspiring leaders in
local commerce and industry entitled, “Creative
Problem Solving — Innovative Methods for
Business and Industry.”
The series, which will help business leaders to
acquire fresh approaches to dealing with issues
and problems in their professions, will be offered type of reasoning.

Conference Center.
Breakfast will be served at 7:30 a.m. prior to
the start of the session at 8 a.m. “The Compo-
nents of Innovation’ will be offered on Sept. 20

Sept. 21-Oct. 12, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Students will make puppets and
participate in a class puppet show. Instructor Lynnette Moore holds a
bachelor of science degree in art education. Cost is $18.
On Saturdays, Oct. 26-Nov. 16, from 10 a.m. to noon, Moore wil instruct
children, ages 8 to 12, in “Painting.” Students will use various types of
paints including watercolors and acrylics. Subject matters will include still
lifes, landscapes, and portraits. Cost is $18.
Programming for Kids,” scheduled Saturdays, Sept. 28, -Oct. 26, from 9
a.m. to noon. Students will acquire or further develop BASIC programming
skills and learn to generate graphs and charts. The IBM PC will be
emphasized. Instructor Jim Heifers is a Pennsylvania certified computer
specialist and teaches computer science at the Middle School in Pittston.
Cost is $50.
Students, grades 4 to 6, can join in a fantastic journey to an unseen world
in “An Adventure in Biology,” to be held Saturdays, Nov. 9-23, from 10 a.m.
to noon. Through a microscope, the young adventurer will probe the realms
of pond water and other areas unseen by the naked eye. The cost is $15,
plus $5 for materials. Al Craft, associate professor, in_the Division of
Natural Sciences, Mathematics and Computers, will instruct.
“Parlez Vous Francais’ will be offered to children, grades 3 to 6, on
Saturdays, Nov. 2-23, from 10 a.m. to noon. The cost is $20. Instructor Diane
Polachek will introduce participants to the French language, which will
include greetings, telling time, French songs and games. Polachek holds a
master’s degree in both French and education. She teaches French at the
Wyoming Seminary Lower School.
Children, grades 4-8, will learn to the logistics of newsletter and
newspaper writing in “Your Own Byline: A Newsletter Workshop for
Kids,” on Saturday, Nov. 2 and 9, from 9 a.m. to noon. Cost is $15. Students
will have the opportunity to write, edit and design a newsletter. Basic
writing skills will be taught. Instructor Jim Schilling holds a bachelor’s
degree in journalism.

Yestrumskas, direcgor of administrative serv-
ices at White Haven Center, who has done
extensive studies in innovative methods and
problem solving. He has facilitated numerous
seminars for business, industry and professional
groups in Pennsylvania and New York.
Yestrumskas holds a B.S. degree in business
administration from Pennsylvania State Univer-
sity, an M.B.A. degree from the University of
Scranton, and an M.G.A. degree from ‘the
University of Pennsylvania.

win awards at camp

Welcome all Ha
Eighth grade students at Wyoming Seminary Lower School,
Forty Fort, hosted a Kindergarten Open House for students
and parents. Among those attending were, from the left,
Carmen Marnell, Dean of the Lower School, Mrs. Joann
Katuna, Cara Katuna, Elliot Katuna, Shavertown; and Mrs.
Mary Catherine Shedlawski, kindergarten teacher.
Lehman PTA
kicks off
fundraising
The Lehman-Jackson Elementary
PTA announces the start of its
annual fall fundraising program.
This year students will be taking
orders from The Soap Box Collec-
tion, an assortment of concentrated
soap products, and Whimseys, deco-
rative glass pieces for fun’n’fancy. a
Proceeds from this campaign will =
support PTA activities and projects
such as assembly programs, educa-
tional presentations, field trips, etc.
Sport fitness
The Dallas High School cheerlead-
ers recently received numerous
awards at Cheerleading Camp.
The Junior Varsity squad, along
with theirsribbons, brought home a
trophy for’ Superior Performance
during competition that was held on
the final day of camp.
The Senior Varsity squad award
ribbons ranged from Outstanding to
Superior and they also were
awarded a trophy for superior per-
formance on the final day of compe-
tition.
One such trophy is awarded each
division.
Both squads won Daily Spirit
Sticks and were voted ‘“The Most
Spirited Squad.” The Dallas High
School Cheerleaders were presented
a plaque by The Universal judges
who conducted the camp.
The camp was held at Penn State,
University Park. Preparation at this
camp readies the Dallas squads for
competing at the National Cheer-
leader Competition to be held in the
fall.
