IN LAST WEEK'S COLUMN, I
reported that Valley Tennis and
Swim Club raised sevral thousand
dollars at a recent event. What was
inadvertently omitted was that
these funds would benefit American
Cancer Society, Wyoming Valley
Unit. Isn’t it great that the club
members worked so hard for such
an important cause! 2 oo

THIS YEAR’S 4
FIRST DAY OF
SCHOOL has
come and gone.
For many stu-
dents, it’s a little
unnerving.
Nowhere is it
more felt than in
Nursery School.
You can imagine
how difficult it is for a three-year-
old to be separated from his or her
mother. There are usually lots of
tears but shortly after Mom leaves,
the little one begins to enjoy the
new situation. It’s amazing how fast
these toddlers adjust to a new set-
Luncheon planned
ting and routine. Routine is very
important. By the end of the week
the new students realized that we
have playtime, go outside, do a
paper or craft, have snack, rest
time, a story and then Mom comes
to pick them up!
At Trinity Nursery School where I
teach, I have a lovely group of boys
and girls. I know we are going to
have a wonderful year.
O-
SCHOOL IS IN, soccer, football
and field hockey are the seasonal
sports and of course the weather
has been in the 90’s. Maybe Mother
the hottest.

PRIOR TO THE START OF
SCHOOL we traveled to the Phila-
delphia Zoo to see the much publi-
cized koala on loan from the San
Diego Zoo. My daughter Nancy is a
real koala fan as is our good friend
Lisa Davenport so the Kingsburys
and the Davenports headed for the
675-0835
What we saw. was not what we
expected. Koalas sleep 18 to 20
hours a day, waking at dawn and
dusk. Since we arrived at 11 a.m. all
we saw was K’Bluey sleeping in a
eucalyptus tree. The crowds were
heavy all day long. It seems a long
way to go just to see the grey, furry
back of a koala. But it was kind of
neat just the same.
