Bs 50th wedding Mr. and Mrs. Gersham Hoyt, Sr. of Fernbrook, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Sep- tember 14. The couple was married in Wilkes-Barre by Rev. Homer Skyles May. Gersham’s brother Clyde and his wife Florence were their attend- ants. Mr. Hoyt is the son of the late Sherman and Daisy (Harris) Hoyt of Kunkle. Mis. Hoyt is the former Margaret Elsie Keiper, daughter of Edna (Daubert) Keiper of the Tunkhan- nock Nursing Home, and the late Oscar Keiper. anniversary They have eight children, Ger- sham Jr. of Wilkes-Barre; Glenn of Evans Falls; Oscar of Plymouth; Leonard of Harveys Lake; Mrs. Shirley Zajkowski of Dallas; Connie Dymond of Beaumont; Mrs. Bonnie Goodrich of Beaumont; Mrs. Theda Cragle of Sweet Valley. They also have 23 living grand- children and one deceased; and three great-grandchildren. Church Council ~The Wyoming Valley Council of Churches has joined UNICEF - the ‘United Nations Children’s Fund - in . a battle to eliminate measles throughout the world. UNICEF sources say that it can be done in the next five years. The campaign is part of a child survival resolution which UNICEF is spearheading, and which has the potential to save the lives of over seven million children in the devel- oping world each year. UNICEF is calling for a global commitment to immunize every child against the five major child- hood diseases by the year 1990. New York Presents SALVATORE'S joins UNICEF Measles, one of the biggest killers, takes the lives of 1,250,000 children and debilitates 1,500,000 more every ear. But for a cost of $5.00, a child in the developing world can now be protected against measles and the four other major diseases. The Wyoming Valley Council of Churches has accepted UNICEF’s challenge to work toward this goal of global immunization. Myers, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Byron Myers, 26 Ramanini Drive, is beginning her sophomore year as an English major. She is a Dean’s List student and a member of the University Chorale. BROWN, formerly of RD 2, Harveys Lake (Beaumont) recently was awarded the Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree at Babson College, Wellesley, Ma. Paul pursued a graduate program of studies n which he concentrated on finance and mangement. He studied a total of 23 graduate classes in such fields as accounting, law, economics, entrepreneurial studies, management information systems, management, labor relations, finance, marketing, international busi- ness, organizational behavior, quantitative methods and taxations. Brown graduated from Tunkhannock High School in 1964, from Wilkes College with honors with a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and Frency, from Middlebury College in Spain with a Master of Arts in Spanish literature and has completed all the work except the thesis for the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Spanish literature at Boston College. He has certification to teach Spanish, French, German, English History, Social Studies, Business Subjects and as a Real Estate broker. Paul is presently employed at Wellesley High School, Welles- ley, Ma., as a teacher of Spanish and French and resides with his wife, Lisa, and son, Eric Rene, in Medfield, Ma. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Brown of RD 2, Harveys Lake (Beaumont). Awards night set Father of locals reports for Navy duty Master Chief Personnelman Lawrence E. Stallard, USN, son of Ralph and Anna Schultz of Sala- manca, has reported for duty at the Naval Military Personnel Command (NMPC) in Washington, D.C. As Head of the Classification Sec- tion of the Navy Enlisted Occupa- tional Class System Division, Master Chief Stallard approves all Navy enlisted occupational categor- ies including both new positions and modifications of existing ones. Overseas duty included two years in Guam, three years in Rota, Spain, and his last duty before reporting to Washington--Stuttgart, Germany, where he was personnel officer for the Personnel Support Activity Detachment from June 1983 until July 1985. Stallard’s naval career was not limited to shroe duty. He served aboard the carrier USS Franklin D. Roosevelt (CV-42), operating out of Mayport, Fla.; the guided missile cruiser USS Sterrett (CG-31), oper- ating out of San Diego, Calif.; and the guided missile destroyer USS Lynde McCormick (DDG-8) also out of San Diego.
