Church Council
~The Wyoming Valley Council of
Churches has joined UNICEF - the
‘United Nations Children’s Fund - in
. a battle to eliminate measles
throughout the world. UNICEF
sources say that it can be done in
the next five years.
The campaign is part of a child
survival resolution which UNICEF
is spearheading, and which has the
potential to save the lives of over
seven million children in the devel-
oping world each year.
UNICEF is calling for a global
commitment to immunize every
child against the five major child-
hood diseases by the year 1990.

Measles, one of the biggest killers,
takes the lives of 1,250,000 children
and debilitates 1,500,000 more every
ear. But for a cost of $5.00, a child
in the developing world can now be
protected against measles and the
four other major diseases.
The Wyoming Valley Council of
Churches has accepted UNICEF’s
challenge to work toward this goal
of global immunization. The citizens
of the Wyoming Valley can help by
welcoming young Trick-or-Treaters
who collect for UNICEF on Hallow-
een. For more information, contact
