For a great defensive battle the Chargers squeezed out a 1-0 victory over the Wings on a goal by Jared Cooney. Jason Pieczeswki was out- standing in goal. The Express beat the Comets 4-3. Those participants from the Back Mountain area, who were able to race expressed their plea- sure with this year’s event. They felt that everything was exceptionally well organized and there were plenty of volunteers all along the route, well equipped with juice and water; also plenty of first aid stops for those in need of them. Lori Goeringer suffered a great disappointment. After training for the past four months, she suffered a stress fracture and was unable to start. ‘I was out before I started but I’m looking forward to next year. I'm going to start training slower and hopefully, everything will be alright.” Her husband, Paul, finished six minutes faster than he did in last year’s Triathlon and 205th overall, with which he was well pleased. Kim Reese, of Shavertown, Penn State student, was thrilled with her result. This was the fourth year she had entered the Triathlon and this year she finished 261st of the 334 who finished. She came in seventh in her age group and plans to enter again next year. “I will aim to finish higher in the next one,” said Top female Newtown, Penn., 4. The Strikers comeback was aided by the superaltive goal tending of Stuart Graham. The Stallions battled the Lancers to a 6-0 victory. Goals were scored by Nikki Sennett, will woronko, Joseph Ankenbrend, Paul Bigus, David Thomas and Michael Viglone. The Aztecs beat the Arrows 2-1 in a close game that featured strong defense by both teams. In the U-12 Division the Chargers, Comets and Kicks continued on the winning track with the Chargers beating the Wings 6-3 and the Kicks shutting out the Cosmos 7-0. Jeff Sands was the Kicks goalie for the shutout. Steven Hedden was out- standing for the Comets who edged the Express 4-3 in the final minutes of the game. In that struggle Billy King scored one for the Comets with Hedden adding 3 more including the winning goal. Andrea Shone was a hard playing Comets defender. Ned Palka led the way for the Express with all three Express goals. LAY-A-WAYS 779-2608 EEE ERE EE | [LEWIS DUNCAN’ Kim. This is the second year Raelene Daring of Dallas competed and she did nine minutes better than last year with no more training than the last one. “I believe my faster time was because of knowing what it was like. That was a big help. I plan to enter again next year but I hope to train more.” The Kavanagh family of Dallas were exceptionally pleased with their times. Gerald Kavanagh, his daughter, Kelley, son Sean, and two of Sean’s friends from Virginia com- peted in the race and all did well. Kelley, however, was the only one of the five to win a trophy. The 16- year old finished third in her age group. She completed the race in 3:26. Her father, Jerry, came in fourth in his age group, finishing in 2:55. Sean finished 74th overall in 2:31. His friends took slightly longer but not much, one completing the race in 2:40 and the other finishing in 3:08. Of the five of them, Kelley did the best in swimming, coming first out of the water in the swimming. That is her strong point since she has been a member of several swim teams. Mike Budjnoski of Harveys Lake finished 64th overall, although he feels he should have been able to do better. He finished 9th in his age group but he took third place in the Triple Crown Keystone competition in his age group of 35-39. This was a surprise and pleased Mike since it is the first year for it. “It is one of the most excellent competitions I have ever known,” said Mike. “It is so well organized and runs so smoothly. Everything is so well taken care of and the volunteers are wonderful. “The Triathlon attracts about 400 athletes plus two or three others who usually come with them. This means places to stay for all of these people and meals the day before and after the race. It brings a lot of money into this are, and it is clean, healthy competition.” The Triathlon ran smoothly and most participants pronounced it a tremendous success but over it all hung one cloud-the tragic accident the night before the race to Dave Kramer, husband of the Triathlon Director Pat Kramer. He was hit by a vehicle while marking the dark road at Demunds Corners so bikers would take the right turn and ended up in the intensive care unit of Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. soccer to open By CHARLOT M. DENMON Post correspondent Dallas and Lake Lehman High School soccer teams have been hold- ing regular practice sessions in anticipation of the 1985-86 season. The Dallas Mountaineers, coached by John McCafferty, will be playing for the first time this season in the newly-formed Wyoming Valley Con- ference. The Knights, under the direction of Coach Ray Dennis, are playing for the first time as a Lake Lehman High School Varsity team. Organ- ized too late to become a member of the Conference, the Knights will play as an independent P.I.A.A.A. team, but will meet every team in the Conference. Coach Dennis has 20 boys on the TLS RE 49 Vantage Cresent Graphlex Gazelle Shoe Stabilizer Vega Lady Vega team roster, six of them seniors. Despite this being the first year for the school varsity most of the boys have had experience playing in the Back Mountain Youth Soccer Asso- ciation. Seniors forming the nucleus for Dennis are Matt Gooch, Scott Sesin, Brandon Dennis, Mike Kmetz, and two senior foreign exchange stu- dents, Mikael Hagman of Sweden and Oyvend Undheim of Norway. The latter two played soccer in their home countries. “The team has great potential should win at least 50 percent, if not more of their games this season,” said Dennis. “The boys have been : practicing well and should come together before the start of the season.’ (Most Brands) Ag, Ah. 4 .
