INFORMATION
For 12 4-Hers in Luzerne County, July 26 was a
in the East-Northeast Region 4-H Fashion Revue held
in Nanticoke, at the Luzerne County Community
College Conference Center.
According to Christine Tomascik, Extension Home
Economics-Youth, those taking part in the regional
Podwika, Wyoming; Pamela Brubaker, Conyngham;
Stacey Mensigner, Nescopeck, Brenda Barna, Wapwal-
lopen; Jodi, Wendy & Tracey Whitebreak, Nescopeck;
Kristen Youngman, Sugarloaf; Barbara Babcock,
Laurel Run; Laurie Welsh, Sugarloaf; and Bernadette
Grosz, Wapwallopen.
The 4-H’ers made the outfits they modeled as part of
their 4-H clothing projects. Along with increasing their
skills in clothing construction, they learned about
wardrobe selection, color coordination, the importance
of good posture and other aspects of grooming.

Days, judges will select an Honors Group of 10
finalists. These 10 4-H’ers will compete for the top state
award, part of which is an expense paid trip to the
National 4-H Congress in Chicago, Dec. 1 through 5.
Penn State’s Cooperative Extension Service coordi-
nates the 4-H Fashion Revue in Pennsylvania. Simplic-
ity Pattern Company and the White-Elna Sewing
Machine Company, sponsors of the national 4-H Fash-
ion Revue program, provide the county medals and the
trip to Congress.
Some 106 4-H horse members from Carbon, Lacka-
wanna, Luzerne, Monroe, Schuylkill and Wayne Coun-
ties participated in the recently held District III 4-H
Horse Show held at the Lehighton fairgrounds in
Lehighton.
This was an elimination show and the winners of the
English, Western and Gymnkhana Classes will now
compete against 4-H’ers from across the State at the
upcoming State 4-H Horse Show.
Luzerne County 4-H’ers who won at the District Show
and will be competing at the State Show are: Daria
Lipinski, Wilkes-Barre; Kim McLaughlin, Dallas;
Kevin Konopinski, Sweet Valley; Catherine Yanchunas,
Mountaintop; Marla Parente, Harveys Lake; Carleen
Christy Campbell, Hunlock Creek. 5
Other participants from Luzerne County were:
Vickie Davis, Mountaintop; Kristen Ecker, Hazleton;
Amy McLaughlin, Dallas; Stephanie Morris, Shaver-
taintop. :
The State 4-H Horse Show will be held Oct. 4-6 at the
Farm Show Building in Harrisburg.
Wilkes College has received approval from the
Northeast Tier Advanced Technology Center at Lehigh
University of a $1.1 million program to foster coopera-
tive activities between private sector firms and the
College to create and preserve jobs in Pennsylvania.
“Wilkes will serve as the catalyst for the program,
which is sponsored by the Ben Franklin Partnership
and encompasses five projects in northeastern Pennsyl-
vapia during 1985-86," said Christopher N. Breiseth,
Prosident of Wilkes College.
According to the College’s Office of Foundations and
Grants Management, the projects will address three
areas: research and development, education and tech-
nology training; and technical and entrepreneurial
assistance.
